Dented Clutch Cover - $350 Poorer
By: Rusty Shovel Date: March 19, 2014, 10:43 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I dropped my baby while riding the Uncle's Big Bend Desert
       Challenge. :'(
I got a slight (and I mean small) ding on my clutch cover. My
dealer just pulled the cover and discovered an inch long crack
on the inside of the cover that was interacting with the clutch
(causing noise, difficulty shifting, etc). A new clutch cover
and oil service will cost me $350.
Don't be me! Our cases are fragile; protect them! I'm starting
a new board entitled "Armor UP!" and will looking for
       suggestions soon.

Good thing u caught that in time. That coulda leaked oil and
seized the motor. Would ur Adventure Spec case savers had helped
if ya had them on at that time?

Yes, I think they would have. The rock I landed on caused a
crease in the case to buckle inward; the case saver would have
       protected that area.

Cool. Thats why I dropped the $$$ and got some on the ol' pig. I
did harescrambles when I was stationed out in the Mojavi and
would see poor guys on the sides of the course with huge holes
in their cases. Aluminum or magnesium cases just won't take the
impact on a rock directly. Gotta get some protection. Can't get
       stranded out there. :P

R&G products are worth the $$$. I've got em all over my bike
(spools, bobbins & can guard). I went with the adventure spec
guards, but if I were still in the market for engine guards I'd
email these guys and see if it would fit the 690 u got. :P
