TSearch & Minesweeper Hacking

We've all got to start somewhere, a good start for most people
is simple memory
editing. My favorite memory searching tool is TSearch

MineSweeper - Start>Run>winmine OR just find it in your program
list
Let us start
Start off with starting minesweeper and TSearch.
Now, before we do anything on minesweeper, we click "Open
Process" on TSearch,
and we get up a list with icons and a process name.
We want minesweeper, I already told you it was named "winmine",
so you can just
find that in the list, if you don't know the name of the
applicaiton you wish to
edit you can allways look for the icon that you recognise.
Now, we need to decide what we wish to edit, I think the most
"profitable" thing
would be the timer so we can get a perfect score and have all
the time in the
world to calculate where the bombs are at.
Now, let's start off by clicking the magnifying glass to the far
left under the
"Open Process" button, and the Search dialog should pop up.
The Search Dialog
- Search
1. Exact Value
You know the value you wish to search for
2. Range
You know that the value is somewhere between A and B
3. Unknown Value
You are unsure about the value you wish to search up
- Value
1. Value (1)
The value to search for
2. Value 2
2nd value to look up (this one will only be available with
a Range search type)
- Type
1. 1 Byte
Values less or equal to 255
2. 2 Bytes
Values less or equal to 65535
3. 4 Bytes
Values less or equal to 4294967295
4. 8 Bytes
Search for 64-bits numbers
5. Float
Search for numbers with remainders (numbers with decimals)
6. Double
Search for 64-bits numbers with remainders (with decimals)
Now, we know that the value we want is "0" (at least right now),
so go ahead and
select "Exact value" as the search type, add "0" as the value,
and this is a 1 byte value.
Now click search, and wait till the search completes.
Now, this value is WAY too high for what we want, is it not ?
Most likely far over 500,000 alues returned.
Now, start a game by clicking a random spot on minesweeper (go
for a corner, they are rarely a bomb).
The timer starts.
Now we can start narrowing our search, click the magnifying
glass NEXT to the
one you just clicked, this one is the Search Next value.
The Search Next Dialog
- Search
1. Exact Value
You know the new value
2. Has Changed
You know the value has changed, but not what the new one
is
3. Has Not Changed
You know the value is identical to the first one
4. Has Increased
You know the value has increased
5. Has Decreased
You know the value has decreased
6. Range
You know the new value is within a range
7. Increased By
You know the new value is increased by X
8. Decreased By
You know the new value is decreased by X
9. Increased By More Than %
You know the new value has increased by more then X
percentage
10. Increased By Less Than %
You know the new value has increased by less then X
percentage
11. Decreased By More Than %
You know the new value has decreased by more then X
percentage
12. Decreased By Less Than %
You know the new value has decreased by less then X
percentage

Same as before
- Type
Same as before
As the timer is still ticking away, we only knwo that it has
increased, so pick
"Has Increased" as the Search type, and pick the appropriate
Type (most likely
still 1 Byte unless the time has passed 255).
Now let's just do a search next with "Has Increased" 2 or 3
times, and we'll end
up with 5 ro so addresses. Now, fomr those 5, find the one which
is ticking up
alongside with your timer and double click it, it should nwo be
on the cheat list
to the right side.
Now, on the side there is a check box, let's start by checking
that box, as that
will freeze the address' value. Now we can change it by double
clicking the value
field and entering anything.
Set it to what time yo uwish to complete the game in, and then
go take your time
in completing it, and yout time will end as the netered value.
The timer will now stay frozen till you unfreze it or restart
MineSweeper.
This is a really basic memory edit, but one that should help you
learn how to do
it with many different applications or even games.
