Hi

Been so busy I wonder how I ever had time to go to work and
bring up 2 kids 😂 I’ve had 3 workmen here today, we have
a very small leak in our kitchen caused by rubbish gutters so we
are going to have to have them replaced, this guy who will do
them is really nice and has done most of our street now, we have
old concrete gutters at the moment, this guy was recommended by
our neighbour across the road, he’s not cheap but does a good
tidy job and is insured, our neighbours next door are having
theirs done at the moment, they are using a different firm who
are cheaper…..well what can I say they look like two cowboys to
me. They worked for one and half days last week and they came
back this afternoon for about an hour, I’ve been watching them
work and it’s scary, they have left most of the back exposed to
the elements, I watched one of them knock a piece of boarding
off today and the wood underneath was rotten but he just stuck
another piece of wood over the top.
Our extractor fan broke just before Christmas and I have been
trying to get someone to come and sort it, anyway a man came
today and he’s going to replace it for me in a couple of days,
we really need a new kitchen eventually but that will have to
wait and I can live with what we have at the moment, our
dishwasher has so decided to give up but I’m not going to bother
getting a new one until we do the kitchen, which will probably
be next year now, it’s no hardship to wash a few dishes although
Paul doesn’t agree 😂 Thirdly our new sofa,I say new
because it’s only 18 months old decided to flatten on my side
(I’m not that heavy) so somebody came out today and fixed it, I
don’t like it anyway but that’s a different story, wish we had
never got rid of our old one it’s was much better made.
I am hoping Moira is ok as I have seen on our news about the
terrible weather and destruction caused in New Zealand, and
Darien I hope my friend you are feeling better. I know I don’t
come here as often as I would like but I want you to know I
think of both of you every day, you are both very precious to
me.

My goodness, you certainly have been very busy!!! That's the
problem with owning a home, there is always something that
needs to be done, especially in older homes. Sometimes I believe
it's a never ending job!!!!!
I am doing so much better, still not up to full strength and
that will take a while, but I am getting there. I walk with a
stick all the time when I am out now, I feel safer that way, but
my lungs are back to normal, even if they are the only parts
that are [emoji1]

OH Phew so nice to catch up and hear your stuff
:))))))))))))))))))))))))) Thats what you get when you buy a
house ... and its not a new house :) Once you live in it for a
while you discover lots of problems and have to fix them :) Been
there and done that a few times BUT you will get there in the
end :) Those gutters sound useless.. concrete gutters ??? So old
fashioned are they not ? I have a vague memory of having to get
new gutters when living in Maghull, Liverpool, cost a bomb even
back in 1980 ish !
As for a dishwasher ... we also had one that was left in the
house we bought in Maghull.... I think it lasted for a few weeks
.........never had another one and never missed it !
Had a few sofas over the years as we have moved a lot and often
got a new one when moving rather than take the old one with us
!:))))))))))))))))
Summer weather in NZ !!!!!... raining right now but it was NOT
too cold today just cloudy and wet and windy !!!!!! Been wild
further up North of Auckland and once upon a time it was the
best place to go for holidays during the summer... weatherwise
!!!!!!!!!!!! Now it is a disaster area and a few people have
sadly lost their lives, some kids too :( Helen lives up near
there, but from what I read Kerikeri has not been bad !

I didn't have a dishwasher until I redid my kitchen, 10 years
ago in April and it's still working like a dream. I couldn't be
without one now, makes life so much easier.
I've never heard of concrete gutters!!!! How do they stay up as
they must be heavy!!!!? We have either tin in the really old
days and aluminium in most cases these days. We had them and a
new roof about 16 years ago now.

Gosh yes, concrete gutters were once the thing back in the olden
days .... not sure if you still have them nowadays ! Probably
English type gutters :)
UK Prices :)
The cost of replacing concrete gutters can vary, but here are
some key points:
The average cost of concrete gutter replacement is £2,400 in
2025. Replacement costs typically range from £40 – £50 per
metre.
I can remember having to pay heaps way back in 1980ish in
Maghull ! The old gutters used to leak when it belted down in
the Liverpool area and we also lived in a Cul de Sac and the end
of the road used to pool with water if it rained a lot and the
few houses at the end used to get under water !
Haha old memories !! Not sure what we have now but they do not
overflow if it rains constantly :) I THINK they are Tin or
Aluminium here in the granny flat !

I don't believe we have ever had concrete guttering here in Aus.
I just did a search and found none in Aus but heaps in the
UK.........it seems so very odd to me and I have never really
looked before!!!!!

the third week but he said they should be finished tomorrow but
we will wait and see.
