I guess you are right about the cost of travelling into Europe,
it's so much cheaper now. Now the hitchhikers are called
backpackers and they come down here all the time and take jobs
in hospitality and fruit picking etc. That way they travel all
over Aus then off to other countries.

AS a ...backpacker I did always want to go to Aus. and NZ after
meeting up with so many Aussie and Kiwi girls in Europe :) It
was never possible back in those days ..... cost too much money
:) I had loads of addresses to go visit too :) Never hear from
any of them nowadays except one in USA married to an American :)
She emails every now and again to catch up :)

It never once entered my head to go travelling any where. I had
no ambition to see the world at all, the only ambition I had was
       to be a vet [emoji4]

I suppose being an RAF child and moving .... and being in
Boarding school with lots of other girls from different parts of
England ..... and we all travelled .... to school for the new
       terms :))
When I left .... after the RAF moved us South to Cambridge ... I
would not go back again to school but I was 16 and I Know I HAVE
told you this before .... I got a job in the local department
store after Mum and I were chatting to a woman on the bus into
Cambridge one day and she offered me a job in fabric dept. Thats
where I met up with Janet, a local girl and after a year working
together in the fabric dept. We decided to go North to Scotland
to work in an hotel :)))))))))))))) For a change :)))))))
I never stopped for years after that :)) I DO remember you
saying how you always wanted to be a VET .. remind me again ...
       why did you not ????

Yes you have mentioned all this before, but remind me what hotel
you worked in when you went to Scotland?
I didn't have the grades to go on to be a Vet and then I met
       Robert..........the rest is history.

:).... in Argyllshire, next one was Hotel Aviemore in Inverness
for the skifields in Winter ... worked there for 2 Winter
seasons and down to Newquay in Cornwalll for the summer season

I just looked them both up, lovely hotels. We stayed in a lovely
hotel in Newquay on a trip over with Deb, the first one she made
a few years ago now. I can't remember the name of it now though.

The Newquay hotels were... first one was The Edgecombe Hotel
where I first met Liverpool Barb. working there:)))))))))))))))
It was on the sea front but I see from maps that it is no longer
an hotel !!! The next summer the Edgecombe was fully staffed so
I went to the one next door ... The Kilburnie and they took me
and my Scottish mate Mary on for the summer season :) I have a
photo or two of the Kilburnie Hotel !!!!
I have a vague memory that maybe you stayed in the Fistral Hotel
when you were in Newquay ??? Does that ring a bell ? NO Idea WHY
       that came up !!!

Those hotels are not the one we stayed in, it was on a hill and
not on the waterfront. I wished I could remember the name of it.
