An old friend
By: DarienJ Date: November 7, 2025, 2:53 pm

I have heard from a very old friend of mine, Helen who is Greek,
we went to high school together. Helen's family shipped her off
to Greece to marry some man, I remember how upset we were at
being separated like this and she didn't really know her
intended.....it's how things were done back then, probably still
do, in Greek families. She put a post up on my old high school
board on FB to see is anyone was in touch with me.
To cut a long story short we will be meeting up down in Sydney
as she and her husband are out here on a holiday. They are
staying at her aunt's place in Burwood, our old stomping ground
and I no doubt met her aunt many years ago. It's been 53 years
since she left Aus and I am so looking forward to seeing her
again after all this time and finding out how her life went.

OMGoodness what a wonderful story and what a lovely surprise for
you :))))))))))))))
IS she still married to THE husband ? Did you not manage to keep
in touch .. even via letter writing back in those olden days ?
Have you maybe mentioned this Greek friend before .. when we DID
talk of Old friends one time ? I will now be awake once again
thinking ;)))))))
I Keep in touch with an old Convent school friend Lesley .. (
RAF girl like me ) on and off over the years and still chat now
and again, she lives in Cyprus with her 2nd husband :) Plus
Imelda from Manchester and Italy ( her family owned an ice cream
company in Manchester ) Plus a couple of Day girls who also
went to St Monica's Convent with us :)
Great memories, when are you going to Sydney to meet up ?
PS: I bet you are awake half the night now thinking of this
friend and your old memories :))))))))))))))))[emoji170]

Sadly no we didn't keep in touch, I don't know why we didn't
exchange letters, but I didn't have an address to write to even
if I had wanted to.
I am assuming that her husband is the same man they shipped her
home to marry as she has been married for 52 years as well as
myself. I don't know if I have mentioned her before, I may have
done as I haven't wondered what happened to her. Robert and I
will go down one day next week or the week after, I will
organise a day soon. It would be easier to go through the week
as they are on holiday, so that shouldn't be a problem [emoji4]

No we have had no contact with each other for over 52 years, so
we will certainly have a lot of catching up to do. I will
arrange with her today the day, time and where we will meet up.
I must ask her if she has a mobile phone I can call her on too.
If you remember I wanted to cruise around the Greek island, but
the long flight has put me off these days, but never say never I
suppose [emoji5]

I DO remember you wanting to cruise the Greek Island and I DO
remember me telling you about the Islands where I have been in
my youth !!! I named them all tonight in another post :))))))
I can read your mind :))))))))))))))))))))) BUT the long flight
from Aus. would not suit me anyway as a long flight from
ANYWHERE would not suit me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!PASS !!!!!

I saw all the islands you visited in the other post, so
many!!!!!
The flight is too long for me these days too, it takes a lot of
me and I doubt I will ever do it again now.
