Maggie the dog....

Late this afternoon she got into a ... fight / battle with Basil
over a lemon in the grass. Apparently Basil bit the end off
Maggie's left foot / paw ? Cash called Penny when Maggie went
limping and bleeding into the back porch onto her mat ! DOG
Blood everywhere so Penny sent Greta up here to ask John to come
look ! NO vets open here except maybe once a week ..... so ex
NURSE John had to clean and patch Maggie's half eaten foot
!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe we need to find a vet tomorrow but poor Maggie had no toe
nails on her left front paw and the paw end is hanging off.
I did take a couple of photos, not that they did show much but I
will put them up on the FB Page for your opinion Darien

We did have lots of antiseptic creams etc etc and people medical
stuff !!!!! Hopefully Maggie will manage :)
AS for Basil............ I would have him shot.. he had a go at
Juno last week too !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just went on to FB and had a look, but I can't see anything of
poor Maggie's bitten foot, so I can't tell you anything really,
but if it were my dog, she would be seen by a vet. Infection
could set in and her paw needs to be x-rayed. Where is the
closest vet to you then? Surely there is some especially in a
rural area!!!!
As for Basil, why did go for Juno, was it over food too? If so,
then he is resource guarding and is very common in a multi dog
household. Training is what is needed.

According to Cash ... the dogs were fighting over a lemon ...
like a ball I suppose ????? You will see what I put re Maggie's
paw and I WILL get a photo for your opinion when she gets back
and we can see it but apparently the did cut off part of the paw
! She also has a bit bitten out of one ear !!!
There IS a rural vet just up the road BUT He did not answer his
phone last night when Corey rang him !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Obviously AFTER Hours .... as I remember we tried to contact him
once before ... when Juno had a lump or whatever on her side
???? PASS !!!!
Basil did have a go at Juno the other day and it WAS over food
that time !

Dogs don't usually like the taste of lemons, so maybe they did
think it was a ball, but it's not right. Was Basil hurt at all?
The vet will have the foot bandaged, so you won't see anything.
The only way to stop Basil resource attacking is to keep all
food they are given separate from each other and definitely
training. Hugo was like that too and tried to take Maggie's food
once, Maggie rounded on him and I let them work it out. There
was no real fight, just Maggie telling Hugo to piss off and he
never did it again and I always fed them away from each other.

AH OK so I will pass on this message re: feeding as I think both
dogs have their food together .... well they do when they come
down here but John does watch them !!!!
Penny is keeping Maggie inside ATM so Basil has to stay in the
porch on his mat and he is NOT Happy !

Perhaps it wasn't over the lemon then and just a spat that got
out of hand, I guess you will never know really. As long as
Maggie is ok and it doesn't happen again I guess.

Well Maggie was inside most of the time today I believe unless
she needs the loo, comfy and curled up on the soft leather
armchair in the warm cosy kitchen ! Baz is outside in the boot
room with access outside !

Baz was left in the boot room..... Penny was worried they may
fight again and did not want to risk it so only Maggie was
allowed inside over night.
They are both normally outside unless it is VERY cold... usually
both in the boot room on their own beds.
