Eyes
By: DarienJ Date: March 5, 2025, 2:43 pm

I went back to the ophthalmologist on Tuesday, my cataracts are
worse, especially in my right eye. I also have the 'squiggles'
in the back of my eyes that are the genes for Retinitis
Pigmentosa, which is what Kylie has, so she finally has proof of
something she can blame me for [emoji1] I have a date to have my
right eye done privately, 3rd June!!!!!! So much for private
being quick!!!! The left eye will be done through the public
system by the same specialist, I don't know when that will be,
they will let me know.

OOOOOOOOOPPPPPS does Kylie know about your pigmentosa
?????????????
Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a member of a group of genetic
disorders called inherited retinal dystrophy (IRD) that cause
loss of vision.
Retinitis pigmentosa is generally inherited from one or both
parents. Inherited retinal dystrophy/disease.
I think we have talked of this before and I do remember taking
Yar to have her eyes done in Perth !
Maybe I will get it ????

I agree so MUCH for Private Optical insurance !!!!!!!!!!!!! IF
you do find you are having more difficulties... GO sit and
complain in your Opthalmologist place !

Good luck with that, that’s a long wait for private? I know when
Paul went private for his frozen shoulders, he had an
appointment within days and the following week was in having
them manipulated under GA. I have a cataract in my left eye,
once we are settled back in Wales I’ll see about sorting it out.

I told Kylie what the ophthalmologist told me as I know she has
wondered about it for a long time, where she got it from and now
she knows. What on earth would make you think you will get it
Moira??
I am not happy about the wait, but there is not a lot I can do
about it.

I might get it if it is a family thing seeing as Yar had it and
I think my dad did too when he got older...... I also think I
have been told by an Opthalmologist in Perth that I do have the
beginning of cataracts when I took Yar to get hers done and I
got mine checked too. I think there was a Thing on in Perth ....
to get your eyes tested for possible cataracts..... for free :)
I have never done anything about it and have had my eyes checked
over the years since... not for cataracts especially but tested
for new glasses !
Hmm it is a wonder Kylie never said anything to you before about
inheriting cataracts !!

You are getting confused here Moira, Cataracts aren't
hereditary, I was talking about Retinitis Pigmentosa that is
hereditary a totally different eye problem. Most people end up
with cataracts as we age, it depends on how bad they are and if
you need to have them removed.

OH I See I thought you were talking about cataracts being a
family thing because I have read this :
Most cataracts are related to age, as more than half of people
80 and older in the United States develop cataracts or have
surgery to remove them. However, some cataracts are genetically
inherited. etc etc.
Ah well I don't think I have Retinitis Pigmentosa thank goodness
:)

Some cataracts are inherited yes, but the majority are age
related. My Mum had macular degeneration as well as cataracts.
No I doubt very much that you have RP and you certainly don't
want it either. Kylie has lost her peripheral vision from it,
but it doesn't seem to have progressed any further, thank
goodness.
