Do you study scripture or the teachers you feel are right?

Acts 17:11 (NIV)
Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in
Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness
and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said
was true. As a result, many of them believed, as did also a
number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.
The Berean Jews were noted for their noble character because
they didn't just take the word of the teacher, in this case,
Paul but instead, they studied scripture and compared it to what
Paul was saying. In this study of the word, they believed and
grew in number. They applied themselves to study to examining
the words of the teacher.
Deuteronomy 29:29...The secret things belong to the LORD our
God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children
forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.
One word of caution however is found in John...our study and
gained knowledge must turn us to Christ, not away from Him.
John 5:39-40...You study the Scriptures diligently because you
think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very
Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me
to have life.

I admit I struggle at times practicing what I teach when I
teach. I have always preferred small little circle discussions.
I prefer to be the one to question everything just to force
uncomfortable discussions at times. I find this teaches much
better. I also find being Socratic in method can help many find
their own way.

sounds like a good way Mark,,,,Since I don't have a pulpit, I
usually simply get questions. Then one thing leads to another
and you have a full conversation. In my case, one has to be
careful how you answer the questions so as not to offend those
asking the questions. sometimes, it is very easy to do just
that.

I know no one asked me, but I agree with PJ, studying scripture
is the only way to really know what God wants us to know...to
study the teachers, can sometimes open up our understanding but
it is the HS that teaches us and scripture is the "textbook" so
to speak that God gave us when learning from the HS.
