Matthew 17:20 English Standard Version (ESV)
20 He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For
truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard
seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to
there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible
for you.”
A little back story about the start of my Journey to Faith. I
was not at all interested in religion or faith. Do not get me
wrong being born in 1954 and raised in the Midwest during that
time, religion was a huge part of your life growing up. I just
was resistant to anything that felt forced on me. That is
until a small group of us that hung out together started doing
our church classes for baptism. This was in 1966.
At first, I said not interested. Two things happen, a mom being
embarrassed and a girl. The mom being embarrassed got me to the
classes but the girl in the class I had a crush on kept me there
and got me involved in the discussions. I really did not learn
that much other than I had no chance with the girl and
let’s face it I was 12 years old.
This became important later as, after the baptism, we were each
handed out the embossed bible the church had bought us. On it
was a little glass globe with a mustard seed in it. We all
were seated on the front row of pews. As the minister called
out our names, we came up to the altar. He welcomed us as full
members of God’s family and gave us this bible. After all
of us had gone through this and the minister allowed some
applause, he gave a sermon on the mustard seed and faith.
I still have the bible pictured below and the girl, well we are
still friends.

Great story Mark, very touching. I started Kindergarten in
Catholic school at St. John The Baptist in St. Louis. In 2nd
grade we moved and I went to St. George. As far back as I can
remember I believed in God and that He is real. Perhaps that
came from my parents and grandparents telling me about God which
is most likely how I heard of God. In 2nd grade I was playing on
the sidewalk and watching tiny ants. I was tiny but I felt like
God watching them. I wondered and marveled at the little things
and I knew right then, that God created them and me. To this day
I will go out of my way to not step on bugs or ants etc. and I
save turtles and birds and injured animals from the road etc.
When I think and see creatures of all kinds, I think of our
powerful and awesome Lord and Creator. It strengthens my faith
and as we know, our faith is weak in relation to the faith that
Jesus Christ has.
