Is scripture given to us for academic reasons or practice reason
s?
By: guest24 Date: March 24, 2020, 8:47 am

So twice now I have been told that the difference between
another poster and myself is that they are all academic where as
I am about application....that isn't totally true since I
believe in both but I digress...so is scripture just an exercise
in academics or is it something we are to apply to our lives?
When teaching, how should it be taught, as academic only or with
real life applications as well?

2 Timothy 3:16-17 King James Version (KJV)
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto
all good works.

Because you can only teach what you know, I don't even
understand how (or why) you could teach about something somebody
else has already said/written...
I still don't see how anybody can teach about Joshua of
Nazareth. We have only very little information on Him.
Many of the quotes attributed to Him have a poetic value, which
makes it possible to interpret in different ways.
I think we can leave it to the scribes to use religion for
"academic" reasons...
Isn't teaching somebody else on religion described in the
following Jesus Christ quote?!?
Luke 6:41-42
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's
eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull
out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest
not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out
first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see
clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's
eye.
In my opinion the (only) value of the Bible is (the teachings
of) "Jesus Christ".
I think that an even better way of teaching others than
"teaching" about what we know, is to teach them to think (again)
after being brainwashed by school, media, science and organised
religion.
When I first read the Bible (if I remember correctly in 1999), I
was surprised that many of the things "Jesus Christ" preached
are still actual.
Almost 2000 years ago, "Jesus Christ" was already trying to
"cure" people from being brainwashed by the slavedrivers.
I homeschooled our 5 children, what I taught them was
how to learn for themselves anything they wanted to know. I
taught them to love knowledge, to seek truth, to use critical
thinking. I don't think anything less is actually teaching but
rather brainwashing. Maybe I am strange in this respect but
there are a whole lot of educators in our world (both in schools
and in churches) but very few teachers it would seem. Just some
food for thought.
It's funny you said this, I homeschooled our 5 children,
what I taught them is how to learn for themselves. Many people
have talked about how amazed they are at how much our kids know.
Man has a natural thirst for knowledge, one that our society
tends to quench.
