What is the difference between deserving and valuable?

Brian and I were just talking about the difference between being
deserving and being of value. I think we often confuse the two
and so I think we should talk about it.
As I understand the difference as per salvation, we are NOT
deserving, IOW's we cannot earn, we are NOT worthy of salvation.
By contrast, we are of great value simply because Christ was
willing to come and suffer and die to bring us salvation....that
       is great value.

I believe that all of God's creation has value including mankind
because it was God who created us. God is love and his creation
was made with His love, invisible qualities, divine nature and
eternal power. That gives God's creation value and also brings
Him glory. He is the Creator and His creation is valuable.
Rom. 1:20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible
qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been
clearly seen, being understood from His workmanship, so that men
       are without excuse.
Ps. 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament
       shows his handiwork.
Ps. 8:1 O LORD, our LORD, how majestic is Your name in all the
earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens.
Job 12:7 But ask the animals, and they will instruct you; ask
the birds of the air, and they will tell you. 8 Or speak to the
earth, and it will teach you; let the fish of the sea inform
you. 9Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD
has done this? 10 The life of every living thing is in His hand,
as well as the breath of all mankind.
As for being deserving, it's not that we deserve anything. It is
God's love and everything good and every perfect gift comes from
       our Father, God.
James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift descends from above, from
The Father of lights with whom there is no change nor a shadow
       of variation.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and
only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but
       have eternal life.
Matt. 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say,
Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Rom. 5:8 But God proves His love for us in this: While we were
still sinners, Christ died for us.
Eph. 2:8 For it is by his grace that we have been saved through
faith, and this faith was not from you, but it is the gift of
God, 9 Not of works, lest anyone should boast.
