How do we pray a prayer of Love?
By: guest24 Date: February 21, 2020, 9:30 am

We are told to Love one another....so let's say that Joe comes
to you and says, I was just diagnosed with cancer, please pray
for me.
Keeping in mind the Lord's prayer as well as the Love Chapter, I
Corinthians 13, what would a prayer of Love look like....might
be a trick question but should open up some great discussion if
we all keep a level head and just have a great discussion.

It would be a prayer of true concern and love from the heart,
...from the heart. Jesus said in prayer "If it is your will,
take this cup from me. Yet not my will but your will be
done"....So that's the way I would pray for Joe, from the heart
with love and I would say, "If it is your will, remove the
cancer and heal him. That is what I humbly pray to happen. Yet
not my will but your will be done.

I'm smiling because Brian told me to add the garden prayer which
is exactly what you did...nice job.
So many times we pray for what we want to happen and forget what
God wants. For example, I usually and am currently praying for
God to reveal Himself to whomever it is I am praying for in that
situation. Why? Because God wants to be seen (not with fleshly
eyes to quench anyone reading who wants to twist what I am
saying) The Lord's prayer shows us that we can pray the things
we know God wants for us, like peace, provision, etc. Likewise,
Love has a purpose and that purpose is to bring reconciliation
first to God then to others.
Some years ago, Brian got pneumonia (thankful for autocorrect on
this one) When he stopped long enough to listen to God, he was
made well...Sometimes and he would tell you this, God allows or
causes illness in order to get our attention...that is why I
often ask that God would be revealed in the situation.
Anyway, thanks

Someone told me something once that I hadn't thought of before.
They said that if we pray for someone about a certain thing,
without that person wanting or asking for prayer for what we
believe they need help with, that we may be praying against
their free will. It would be different if the person asked for
prayer and stated exactly what they needed and wanted to be
prayed for and are agreeable to be prayed for that reason. But
people don't always want or need what we believe or think they
want or need in way of prayer.
I may not have explained that very well.

we all pray a different prayer for those we do not know and for
those we do know. a Prayer asking for GOD to give comfort to
those is about all we can ask....The prayer itself gets us
involved in the process with GOD....
I think it is more about what God wants for them but I
get what you are saying.
I mentioned the young friend who has just had a very bad
diagnosis. I prayed that they would have peace. Because of an
emergency trip out of state, I asked her how she was doing, she
said "surprisingly good"...God's will prayer into their life.
I have another friend who was telling me once about marriage
problems, we prayed and I prayed that God would be revealed in
their marriage, to heal them so that they could testify to the
beauty of God's Love....afterwards, she said to me, "I thought
you were suppose to pray for what you want"...I told her I did
for those were the things that God wants for them. Often times,
our desires and God's will are in contrast with one another.
Thus the question, are our prayers covetous as in what we want,
or are they yielding our wills to what God desires for us? I
have no problem saying, we would like you to X but it is when we
pray peace, contentment, comfort, spiritual healing, etc. into
their lives that we finally grasp "not my will but thine be
done."
My two cents
What if you don't feel the love?
Love is agape Love and it is emotion, actions, attitude
and more. So we can have action and attitude without emotion
etc. However, I would start such a prayer (me personally) with
"Lord, help me to Love them enough to pray your will into their
lives with a sincere Love for them. Show me your will for me in
their life and make ME a willing servant even in this...." or
something like that....so that I am NOT hindering the will of
God in their lives.

Yes, I agree but not everyone sees it that way.
I think the point this person was making is that someone we
might pray for would act against and not in harmony with what we
prayed for in some way because of their free will.
I just thought of an example. I was at this woman's home one
day. It was really hot, summertime. She began talking in an
excited and even happy way about her deceased husband and she
said he had been appearing to her. As she was telling me this,
the temperature dropped to a chill in the room. She didn't have
the air conditioner on. I knew it was time to pray. I told her
that we needed to pray for protection and she was disappointed.
But I prayed for protection anyway and before finishing the
prayer, the temperature returned to normal. I tried to tell her
not to seek out that kind of thing again. That it wasn't her
husband appearing to her. She was very disappointed. So I don't
know if she continued to seek that out but I had prayed for her.
She didn't seem to like what I said.
