After finishing grad school, Sam Gambling decided that a tiny
house would be a perfect fit for her lifestyle. She wanted to
remain in Vancouver, BC to be near work, family and friends; but
the cost of living in the city was incredibly high.
She also wanted to be able to work a not-for-profit job without
worrying if she'd have enough money for rent each month. Last
but not least, tiny houses were a housing solution that fit well
with her environmental sustainability values.
She knew tiny houses weren't legal in the city, but she went
ahead and hired a builder, and began construction on her tiny
house in 2016 anyway. After a few months, she realized that it
was harder than she thought to find an urban parking spot for a
tiny house. She did receive many offers to park her tiny house
in rural areas though.
After meeting other people in the tiny house world who were
encountering the same issue, she co-founded the BC Tiny House
Collective with Anastasia Koutalianos to try and legalize and
legitimize tiny houses in the province of British Columbia, and
in Metro Vancouver.
The two women are working with partners and volunteers to do
research, outreach, consultations, tiny house builds, and pilot
projects to make tiny houses legal.

Creative Couple's Stunning Tiny House Cost Only $17k!

Built for only US$17,000 this young couple's incredible tiny
house is packed with unique and interesting design elements. The
entire build was carried out as a DIY project using mainly
reclaimed materials, as the couple saved up for each new phase
of the construction.
The couple decided to build a tiny house on wheels to give them
freedom and more options for their future. Not knowing what city
they were going to live in, or where they would need to travel
for work once graduating, a house on wheels gave them the
ability to simply hitch up their home and follow whatever
opportunities presented themselves.

Incredible Dome Home Built with Earth Bags - Sustainable

They have solar power, propane, and a
rocket stove, and they're planting native trees, mushrooms, etc.
along a path to create a permaculture food source on their
property.
They also have a tipi and a yurt, in addition to the earthbag
structure, where people can come to spend some time in nature,
enjoy the trails they've set up, and learn different skills from
basket weaving to building a rocket stove.
Seb and Isa are two very inspiring and hard working people who
are a pleasure to be around. It's also very nice to see people
putting their beliefs and ideals into action.
Their sustainable off grid project is called La Nature ŕ l'état
Pur. The eco dome is built using plans for a SuperAdobe home,
which they learned how to build in California at the CalEarth
Institute.

I love this idea and I am currently in process of doing
something similar. I own a few acres on the lake and it is very
secluded so I will need solar. There are many ways to go and I
cannot decide which is best but I will happily post as I go :]
