What was lacking in Christ's afflictions?
By: guest24 Date: January 18, 2019, 11:44 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Colossians 1:24-29 24 Now I rejoice in my sufferings for you,
and I am completing in my flesh what is lacking in Christ’s
afflictions for His body, that is, the church. 25 I have become
its servant, according to God’s administration that was given to
me for you, to make God’s message fully known, 26 the mystery
hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to His saints.
27 God wanted to make known among the Gentiles the glorious
wealth of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of
glory. 28 We proclaim Him, warning and teaching everyone with
all wisdom, so that we may present everyone mature in Christ. 29
I labor for this, striving with His strength that works
powerfully in me.
this passage fascinates me and I believe the answer to the
question is in the passage but I know many people like to argue
that there was nothing lacking in Christ's afflictions...so
given the passage, what was lacking?

:) I was waiting for more input but my short version is that
Christ's afflictions were not complete without us...someone to
benefit from them. That being both the Church and those of us
called to share the gospel with others. This brings about a
whole new understanding of man's creation in my understanding of
the whole thing for there has to be a purpose for our existence
if Christ would go to such lengths to save us....
another passage that fascinates me is Isaiah 53:10 10Yet it
pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when
thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his
seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord
shall prosper in his hand.
It pleased the Lord to bruise His son for me.
I hear all kinds of discussions about the depravity of man and
we are, but we seldom see a discussion about the value of man.
As someone who spent my entire life growing up being told that I
was of no value, knowing that I am of great value to God is an
amazing truth that should never be overlooked. But not just
valuable, but the completion of His sacrificial gift. The value
of man is beyond compare even though we cannot do anything to
earn our salvation and have hurt God in ways we still can't
fathom, He bestows upon us a value that is mind boggling.
I agree and I've been watching a young "preacher" who
starts with repentance and ends with repentance and he says Mark
9:47 is the gospel. I watch him when he does a Live Stream on
YouTube usually once a day. I would like it if you listened and
commented in the live comments. He really got me thinking that
repenting is absolutely necessary, otherwise how can we really
approach the throne. Yes, I'm a dispy and saved by grace without
works is correct but we also must truly repent. We can't be
"holding on" to a few of our favorite sins.
Long story short, somebody posted that God did not approve of
Jesus' death but you just showed that it DID please God that His
Son was bruised. Anyway, here is a link to this channel but I
only watch Jon Singleton. Look for his Live Stream to pop up
after you SUBSCRIBE to his YouTube channel, I'd like your

Lori, as far as the value of man and mankind is the utmost to
God. He loves us all and wants each one of us back. We are
purchased possessions. He wants us to be with him forever. The
earth and the heavens were created FOR mankind and we are the
center and the focus of His love and attention. When |I imagine
I think that we are the most important thing to God, our
redemption and salvation. God has created everything and DONE
everything with US in mind.
The KJV says "behind of the afflictions of Christ" not
lacking. However, I have seen "lacking" before and I think it
was the KJV - Did they revently change that, I wonder? With The
KJV version and the "lacking" version I tend to think that Paul
was talking about HIS OWN afflictions in the flesh, which he
spoke of in another verse.
