PROMISE TO ABRAHAM

---------------------------------------------------------
[Genesis 15:5 KJV] "And he brought him forth abroad, and said,
Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to
number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be."
[Genesis 15:6 KJV] "And he believed in the LORD; and he counted
it to him for righteousness."
[Genesis 15:7 KJV] "And he said unto him, I [am] the LORD that
brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land
to inherit it." ******** God made covenantal promise with
Abraham to multiply his seed and give them the land. Abraham was
not required to perform any work, he only believed God.
[Genesis 17:2 KJV] "And I will make my covenant between me and
thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly."
[Genesis 17:4 KJV] "As for me, behold, my covenant [is] with
thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations."
[Genesis 17:9 KJV] "And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep
my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their
generations."
[Genesis 17:10 KJV] "This [is] my covenant, which ye shall keep,
between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child
among you shall be circumcised." ******** Abraham is now a
participant in this covenant, whereas before, it was
unconditional, now Abraham must obey the command of the covenant
[Genesis 22:16 KJV] "And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the
LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not
withheld thy son, thine only [son]:"
[Genesis 22:17 KJV] "That in blessing I will bless thee, and in
multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven,
and as the sand which [is] upon the sea shore; and thy seed
shall possess the gate of his enemies;"
[Genesis 22:18 KJV] "And in thy seed shall all the nations of
the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice."
********* God swore by himself to multiply Abraham's seed.
Abraham being obedient wasn't required to fulfill God's promise
to multiply his seed. The blessing and promise of the seed and
the land was realized by Abraham's obedience to God's command
under their covenant relationship. This can be seen by this
passage ******** [Genesis 18:19 KJV] "For I know him, that he
will command his children and his household after him, and they
shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that
the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of
him."
