THE SCATTERED CHURCH

[Acts 8:1 KJV] "And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at
that time there was a great persecution against the church which
was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout
the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles."
[Acts 8:3 KJV] "As for Saul, he made havock of the church,
entering into every house, and haling men and women committed
[them] to prison."
[Acts 8:4 KJV] "Therefore they that were scattered abroad went
every where preaching the word." ********* There are some who
say this was the persecuted church fulfilling the "great
commission".
This was not the case. The apostles were given the command to go
to the nations, but rather than go to the Gentiles, they stayed
in Jerusalem as commanded to await the promise of the Holy Ghost
*********** [Acts 1:4 KJV] "And, being assembled together with
[them], commanded them that they should not depart from
Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, [saith
he], ye have heard of me."
[Acts 11:19 KJV] "Now they which were scattered abroad upon the
persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as
Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but
unto the Jews only."********* This verse details the extent of
the persecuted church's scattering. They only preached to the
Jews, not the Gentile nations.
