Here is my response to another attack on Matthew 12:40
Hello Doug. Yes this can be reconciled.
You do realize that mat 12:40 is figurative language right?
With all due respect that's a new one, but not a surprise. It
seems to me that you acknowledge there is a problem with a
Friday crucifixion falling short of three nights. I have been
told that this is an idiom. On what basis was this determined?
It's funny you all don't say these other verses are figurative:
************ [John 2:19 KJV] "Jesus answered and said unto them,
Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."
[Mark 8:31 KJV] "And he began to teach them, that the Son of man
must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and [of]
the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three
days rise again."
[Luke 24:46 KJV] "And said unto them, Thus it is written, and
thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the
third day:" ********* You all don't contend that these verses
are figurative, is it because these verses don't conflict with
your Friday crucifixion? You do realize that you are making
Christ a liar? ************* [Matthew 12:40 KJV] "For as Jonas
was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall
the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of
the earth." ********** Jesus said he would be three days and
three nights in the heart of the earth just as Jonas was three
days and three nights in the whale's belly. You have to make
Jonas in the whale figurative as well, which makes Jesus a liar
because he said it happened when it didn't.
