A THURSDAY CRUCIFIXION FULFILLS THE THIRD DAY
By: doug Date: March 23, 2026, 9:15 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Here is the chronology of the crucifixion
DAY ONE
Wednesday sunset until the following sunset is Thursday. Christ
is crucified and dies at 3PM making this the first day in the
grave, no night.
DAY TWO NIGHT ONE
Thursday sunset until the following sunset is Friday. This is
the second day and the first night.
DAY THREE NIGHT TWO
Friday sunset until the following sunset is Saturday. This is
the third day and the second night.
NIGHT THREE
Saturday sunset until the following sunset is Sunday. Jesus
arises before dawn on the first day of the week **********
[Matthew 28:1 KJV] "In the end of the sabbath, as it began to
dawn toward the first [day] of the week, came Mary Magdalene and
the other Mary to see the sepulchre."
This chronology aligns with scripture
THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS
[Matthew 12:40 KJV] "For as Jonas was three days and three
nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three
days and three nights in the heart of the earth." ************
In accordance with a Thursday crucifixion, Jesus was in the
grave three days and three nights.
AFTER THREE DAYS
[Mark 8:31 KJV] "And he began to teach them, that the Son of man
must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and [of]
the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three
days rise again." ************ Jesus was crucified and rose
after three days, Friday is day one, Saturday is day two, Sunday
is day three after which he rises early in the morning.
IN THREE DAYS
[John 2:19 KJV] "Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this
temple, and in three days I will raise it up." ************ In
three days would be Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
THE THIRD DAY
[Matthew 16:21 KJV] "From that time forth began Jesus to shew
unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and
suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes,
and be killed, and be raised again the third day." ************
This was not readily reconciled to me. Jesus rose Sunday, the
first day of the week ************* [Mark 16:2 KJV] "And very
early in the morning the first [day] of the week, they came unto
the sepulchre at the rising of the sun." ************ The third
day would be Saturday. Jesus didn't rise on a Saturday. Thursday
was the first day. Friday was the second day. Saturday was the
third day. This is resolved in Luke 24 ************ [Luke 24:1
KJV] "Now upon the first [day] of the week, very early in the
morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which
they had prepared, and certain [others] with them."
[Luke 24:13 KJV] "And, behold, two of them went that same day to
a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem [about]
threescore furlongs." ************* Two of the disciples the
same day, which was Sunday, went to the village
[Luke 24:15 KJV] "And it came to pass, that, while they communed
[together] and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with
them."
[Luke 24:17 KJV] "And he said unto them, What manner of
communications [are] these that ye have one to another, as ye
walk, and are sad?"
[Luke 24:18 KJV] "And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas,
answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem,
and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in
these days?"
[Luke 24:19 KJV] "And he said unto them, What things? And they
said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet
mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:"
[Luke 24:20 KJV] "And how the chief priests and our rulers
delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him."
[Luke 24:21 KJV] "But we trusted that it had been he which
should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the
third day since these things were done." *********** Christ was
crucified on Thursday. Cleopas said it was the third day since
Thursday's crucifixion. Friday is 1st day, Saturday is 2nd day,
Sunday is the third day. The third day in the crucifixion order
is the first day of the week, Sunday.
