THE HIGH SABBATH OF JOHN 19:31
   DIR By: doug
       Date: March 18, 2026, 10:32 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
[John 19:14 KJV] "And it was the preparation of the passover,
and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold
your King!" ********** Pilate was speaking to the crowd who
wanted Jesus crucified. The passover meal had been prepared
Wednesday Nissan the 14th and eaten at Wednesday's sunset, which
made it eaten on Thursday. This Thursday Nissan the 15th fell on
the first day of the feast of unleavened bread. The first day
Nissan the 15th was a holy day convocation, a high sabbath day.
This did not pertain to the weekly Saturday sabbath,
[John 19:31 KJV] "The Jews therefore, because it was the
preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on
the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,)
besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and [that] they
       might be taken away."
[John 19:32 KJV] "Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of
the first, and of the other which was crucified with him."
[John 19:33 KJV] "But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he
was dead already, they brake not his legs:" ************* the
events in this passage take place on Thursday Nissan/Abib the
15th. Jesus was crucified on Thursday and their bodies were not
to remain on the cross because it was the preparation.
Preparation was when Jews made preparation for the sabbath; they
completed all their work and food preparation. Normally
preparation day was the Friday before the weekly Saturday
sabbath. However, this preparation day coincided with the first
day of the feast of unleavened bread.************ [Exodus 12:16
KJV] "And in the first day [there shall be] an holy convocation,
and in the seventh day there shall be an holy convocation to
you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save [that] which
every man must eat, that only may be done of you." ***********
this being the first day of the feast designated it as a high
day. This was Thursday Nissan 15th.
       This is the timeline:
Wednesday Nissan 14th begins at Tuesday's sunset. The disciples
       prepared for the Passover meal.
Thursday Nissan 15th begins at Wednesday's sunset. They ate the
       Passover meal after Wednesday' sunset.
Christ was crucified on Thursday around 9am and Christ died
around 3pm. The Jews besought Pilate to break the legs of Christ
and the two thieves because it was preparation. This preparation
coincided with Thursday Nissan 15th, the first day of the feast
of unleavened bread. This was a high sabbath day.
Friday Nissan 16th begins at Thursday's sunset. Joseph prepares
Jesus's body to lay in the tomb at Thursday's sunset. This is
Friday, the day before the weekly Saturday sabbath.
