IS LENT BIBLICAL?

---------------------------------------------------------
I will examine the religious practice of Lent.
Lent lasts forty days and begins on Ash Wednesday.
What is practiced during Lent? This is what I read about Lent, I
will comment next to each of Lent's tenants:
The 40-day period is not just about counting days but about
spiritual preparation and transformation. During Lent,
Christians are encouraged to:
Pray: Deepen their relationship with God through daily devotion
and reflection........I have no disagreement with this in so far
as it's Biblically based.
Fast: Abstain from certain foods or habits to practice
self-discipline and imitate Christ’s sacrifice.........There is
no scripture to support abstaining from food and in fact Paul
says it has no benefit.........[Colossians 2:21 KJV] "(Touch
not; taste not; handle not;"
[Colossians 2:22 KJV] "Which all are to perish with the using;)
after the commandments and doctrines of men?"
[Colossians 2:23 KJV] "Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom
in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not
in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh."........There is
no scripture saying to imitate Christ's sacrifice
Give alms: Perform acts of charity and service to
others..........[2 Corinthians 9:7 KJV] "Every man according as
he purposeth in his heart, [so let him give]; not grudgingly, or
of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.".........There is
nothing wrong with giving as long as it's not of necessity
The Jews gave alms for reward........ [Matthew 6:3 KJV] "But
when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right
hand doeth:"
[Matthew 6:4 KJV] "That thine alms may be in secret: and thy
Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee
openly."..........we can't expect the same motive of reward.
These practices mirror Jesus’ 40-day fast in the desert, helping
believers focus on spiritual renewal and preparation for Easter.
[Luke 4:1 KJV] "And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned
from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,"
[Luke 4:2 KJV] "Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in
those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he
afterward hungered."...........We can't mirror being led by the
Spirit in the wilderness. No scripture commands this.
