HERE IS A DISCUSSION I HAD ABOUT ACTS 2:30 FROM THE NIV
By: doug Date: March 11, 2026, 9:07 am
---------------------------------------------------------
The NIV
[Acts 2:30 NIV] "But he was a prophet and knew that God had
promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants
on his throne."
The KJV
[Acts 2:30 KJV] "Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God
had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins,
according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his
throne;".
You were unable to answer me when I asked how would you know
that Christ would sit on David's throne. Christ is removed in a
lot of the newer Bibles. I however know from MY KJV Bible! Here
is how your Septuagint reads.................The reading of Acts
2:30 in the Septuagint states: "A prophet then being, and
knowing that God swore to him an oath to make one of his
descendants succeed him on the throne." .........,,,,,You can't
know from the Septuagint that Christ will be raised to sit on
David's throne.
The NIV
Acts 2:31 NIV] "Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the
resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the
realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay."
The KJV
[Acts 2:31 KJV] "He seeing this before spake of the resurrection
of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh
did see corruption."
The new Bibles dilute the resurrection of Christ. The KJV says
David seeing this before, seeing what? seeing that Christ would
be raised to sit on the throne. The NIV says seeing what was to
come, David spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah. Take note,
in the NIV, David is NOT saying that Christ would be raised to
sit on David's throne, he is only saying that someday some
Messiah will be resurrected. David in the NIV just speaks of the
resurrection of the Messiah, not of it being Christ's
resurrection.
