ORIGIN REVISED THE SEPTUAGINT WHICH INFLUENCED THE NEW BIBLES
By: doug Date: March 3, 2026, 4:31 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
This study is to show how Origin had influence on the
Septuagint. The Septuagint has influenced the new Bibles
       currently being used.
The codex Vaticanus is based on the
       Septuagint............................"The Codex Vaticanus is
indeed based on the Septuagint, which is a translation of the
Hebrew Bible into Greek. It is one of the earliest and most
complete manuscripts of the Greek Bible, dating back to the 4th
century AD. The Codex Vaticanus contains the majority of the
Greek Old Testament and the New Testament, and it is considered
a reliable source for textual criticism due to its early date
and the Alexandrian text-type it represents. "
However, the Septuagint was corrected by Origen
................"The Septuagint, also known as the Greek Old
Testament, was not solely corrected by Origen and other
scholars. While Origen attempted to correct copyists' errors
that had crept into the text of the Septuagint, which varied
widely from copy to copy, this was not the only effort to
correct it. Recensional activity before the Christian era
involved harmonizing the Septuagint with the then-current form
of Hebrew text, which included the Hexapla."
The Septuagint is a collection of 70 translators
..................."The Septuagint is indeed a collection of
translations of the Hebrew Bible into Greek. It is the earliest
extant Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible, created for the
Jewish community in Alexandria, Egypt, between the 3rd and 2nd
centuries BCE. The Septuagint does not consist of a single,
unified corpus; rather, it is a compilation of various
translations, including the Torah, the Nevi'im (Prophets), and
the Ketuvim (Writings), along with other Jewish texts known as
       apocrypha"
The Septuagint has undergone various revisions and
       interpretations..................""Scholars have engaged with
the Septuagint extensively, but there is no definitive scholarly
edition that has been fully corrected. The Septuagint, also
known as the Greek Old Testament, is a collection of
translations of the Hebrew Bible into Greek, traditionally
attributed to seventy-two translators commissioned by Ptolemy II
Philadelphus. While scholars analyze its textual traditions and
linguistic features, the translation itself has undergone
various revisions and interpretations over time, and there is
ongoing debate about its accuracy and textual integrity. Modern
scholarship continues to explore its historical development and
theological implications, but a complete critical edition has
       not been established."
Origen composed the Hexapla which influenced Septuagint
       copies........................"The Hexapla, a critical edition
of the Hebrew Bible in six versions, was compiled by Origen
before 240 AD. It is a word-for-word comparison of the original
Hebrew Scriptures with the Greek Septuagint translation and with
other Greek translations. In summary, the Hexapla's influence on
the Septuagint is significant, as it provides a comprehensive
comparison of the Hebrew text with the Greek translations,
helping to clarify the original intent of the Hebrew
       Scriptures."
The Hexapla was used to correct the
Septuagint..............."The Hexapla was indeed used to correct
the Septuagint. Origen's Hexapla was a critical edition of the
Hebrew Bible in six versions, four of which were translated into
Greek. It was a word-for-word comparison of the original Hebrew
Scriptures with the Greek Septuagint translation and with other
Greek translations. The Hexapla was an immense and complex work
that aimed to establish the correct text of the Septuagint,
which Origen incorrectly assumed was what most closely agreed
with the Hebrew text current in his day. The Hexapla's
contribution to the textual history of the Septuagint has been
significant, providing valuable information about the state of
the Septuagint and related textual problems in the first two
       centuries C.E"
The codex Vaticanus was written in the 4th
century....................."The Codex Vaticanus was written in
the 4th century AD, specifically dated to circa 325–350 A.D. It
is one of the oldest and most reliable manuscripts of the
Christian Bible, containing both the Old and New Testaments."
The Vaticanus was influenced by the
       hexapla........................."Origen's Hexapla, here labelled
with the adjectival Hexaplar, is shown as the source of the
Codex Sinaiticus (א), Codex Alexandrinus (A) and Codex
Vaticanus (B), three of the oldest extant manuscripts of the
Greek Old Testament"..........Origen wrote the Hexapla before
240AD, the Vaticanus was written 325-350AD making it feasible
that the Hexapla influenced all of these corrupted texts.
