THE GREATEST COMMANDMENTS

[Mark 10:17 KJV] "And when he was gone forth into the way, there
came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good
Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?"
[Mark 10:19 KJV] "Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit
adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness,
Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother."..........The law was
organized into three categories, moral law, ceremonial law, and
civil law. Jesus commanded him to keep the ten commandments for
eternal life because they encapsulated the Mosaic moral law.
However, there were two commandments greater than the
ten..........[Mark 12:29 KJV] "And Jesus answered him, The first
of all the commandments [is], Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God
is one Lord:"
[Mark 12:30 KJV] "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all
thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and
with all thy strength: this [is] the first commandment."
[Mark 12:31 KJV] "And the second [is] like, [namely] this, Thou
shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other
commandment greater than these."..........Jesus was citing
Deuteronomy........[Deuteronomy 6:5 KJV] "And thou shalt love
the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul,
and with all thy might."
[Deuteronomy 10:12 KJV] "And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy
God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in
all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God
with all thy heart and with all thy soul,"
[Deuteronomy 11:13 KJV] "And it shall come to pass, if ye shall
hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this
day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your
heart and with all your soul,".........Israel was to keep his
commandments and walk in his ways to love him. Israel could not
keep the commandment to love him, but God would enable
them...........[Deuteronomy 30:6 KJV] "And the LORD thy God will
circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the
LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that
thou mayest live."
