Thorn in the Flesh…
But scripture tells us that God opposes the proud. (James

(John 8:44) We must assume then that Satan’s purpose in giving
the thorn to Paul was that of destruction. Satan wanted to use
the thorn in the flesh that he gave to Paul to draw Paul away
from God and into death. However, God had a different plan in
mind. Genesis 50:20 says, (HCSB) “You planned evil against me;
God planned it for good to bring about the present result--the

Lori, thanks for your hard work about Satan.
It surely helps others who read it know who they're fighting
against. You're right again!
I do also realize how important "works" are! I am very
appreciative of those Scriptures you found that deals with the
subject. Check out Rev. 20:13KJV. God judges the remaining
souls by their works, even those who were in the sea, in death,
and hell.
What do you think about the Return of Jesus Christ being
imminently soon? It is something that I suppose that most
people ponder these days.

great verse...thanks...
I don't think about His second coming as much as most it would
seem. Some time ago I came across Amos 5:18 Woe unto you that
desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day
of the LORD is darkness, and not light.
That passage kind of compels me to focus on the hear and now and
doing what God has given me to do now rather than focus too much
on His return. Nonetheless, I do believe that His return is
close at hand and I see the signs....so "Even so come Lord
Jesus." How awesome to be one of those that witness that
coming! (Rev. 22:20)
Lori, I am trying to quit saying 'hon,' but
it's taking a while. I slip and do it. I don't want to offend
anyone.
I do not desire the day of the Lord, except that it has to
happen first before Jesus will return. I have studied the
subject quite a bit and I am looking forward to leaving the
Earth and going to Heaven. It will be hard when the Apocalypse
happens, but many have to make it through it.
I am looking forward to Satan getting bound by chains and cast
back into hell. This Earth will be a wonderful place to live
once everyone knows that no evil will be allowed by the Lord,
and the meek shall live in peace for 1,000 years and even more.
Godspeed, Jesus!!

no offense and I was not trying to assert that you were
desiring the day of the Lord just answering the question based
on what God has shown me, nothing more or less.
Funny story...(long story) because of some of our youngest sons
experiences he is running from God at the moment and calls
himself an agnostic. One day I asked him what he would do if
his dad and I were raptured (just talking not opening debate
about rapture that is a different time and place and purpose
from the question asked) My agnostic son said he would find all
the money he could find in the house, find all the bibles he
could get his hands on and go out and preach the gospel to the
world. I asked him what then was holding him back and he didn't
have a good answer. (He is just angry at God right now and
where I know he is wrong and pray for him I do understand why he
feels the way he does for those who want to judge him...again
not saying you just preempting anyone who is reading and wants
to make some arguments that are not warranted)
Anyway, I found his answer interesting and challenging when it
comes to the second coming of our Lord and the shortness of the
time at hand. In fact, the shortness of the time is one of my
husbands big discussions around here.

Lori, you must have a very spiritual husband and that is really
excellent. Your husband is wise to consider what he does. It
is soon, but I can't give you any details. And I have to admit
that I don't know when the Apocalypse or Jesus' returning will
happen. Only the Lord God knows.
Perhaps your son will get on the Peace Train soon!

Murderer and Liar…
John 8:30-46 is an account of Jesus speaking to the Jews. He
tells them that those who continue in His words are His
disciples. Those who do not continue in His words are doing the
will of their father who is a murderer and liar. The people
argued that their father (ancestor) was Abraham who was
considered a righteous man. Jesus them continues to explain to
them about who Satan is and how their behavior is showing that
they belong to him. First let us look at how we know we belong
to Christ in this passage. First we look at verse 31 we are
Christ’s if we continue in obedience. Second, verse 32 we who
belong to Christ have been set free from the bondage of sin.
Verses 37 and 40 tell us that those that belong to Satan are
murderers like he is and then in verse 44 they are liars like he
is. Those that are born of Satan’s desires are not only liars
but they refuse to listen to Christ and His teaching because
they cannot hear Him. These then become the things we need to
do in order to avoid this scheme of Satan. We need to listen,
to continue to follow, to live a life that is free from sin,
lies, and hate.
With well over a thousand passages that talk about listening
we can understand that listening is important to God. (Isaiah
51; Matthew 11:15; Matthew 13:13-14; Matthew 13:43; Matthew
15:10; Matthew 17:5; Mark 9:7) We need to not only listen to God
but understand what He is telling us in His word. Likewise we
need to continue in His word, continue to obey His commands.
(Acts 5:29; Acts 5:32; Romans 10:16; II Corinthians 10:5; II
Thessalonians 1:7-8; Hebrews 5:9; I John 5:2) This obedience is
a continuing to be set from from our bondage to the sins we once
served. (Romans 6:12-16; John 8:34-35; II Peter 2:19) In this
freedom from our bondage to sin we are given the sonship that is
so important to the inheritance that we are given. (II
Corinthians 6:18; romans :14-19; Romans 8:17; Revelations 21:7)
Among the sins we are to avoid is that of slander and lies,
(Psalms 5:6; Psalms 119:69; Psalms 144:7-9;
Proverbs 19:5-9; Isaiah 32:7; Jeremiah 9:3; Jeremiah 16:19;
Jeremiah 23:14; Ezekiel 13:19; Ezekiel 13:22; Daniel 11:27) The
murderers are not just those that kill but also those that
harbor hate in their hearts. (Numbers 35:30; II Kings 14:6;
Isaiah 33:15; Hosea 4:2; Matthew 15:19; Mark 7:21; Romans 1:29;
James 4:2; I John 3:12; I John 3:15; Revelations 9:21; I John

Plants Ideas in Our Hearts…
In John 13 we see Jesus predicting His betrayal at the hands of
Judas Iscariot. Verse 2 tells us that Satan planted the idea in
Judas heart but it isn’t until verse 27 after Judas took the
bread that Satan entered him. Like it or not it is not just our
human nature with its evil desires that tempt us to sin.
Sometimes Satan himself puts the thoughts into our minds and
hearts. This entire account of Satan prompting Judas takes
place at the passover supper where we see Jesus washing the feet
of the disciples. The key element of the discussion seems to be
that of cleanliness. Matthew 23:25-26 has Jesus telling the
religious leaders that they need to clean the inside of the
vessel before they worry about whether the outside is clean.
Here Jesus is referring to living out the cleansing that He
brings. In other words, Jesus is saying that when He comes in
and gives us His righteousness it is important to us to maintain
that righteousness in our everyday lives. We are not to be
hypocrites as the religious leaders of the day were. Matthew 23
tells us that the religious leaders were hypocrite and lawless
in their hearts even though the outward show was one of
religious rightness. Luke 11:39 says that outwardly they say
and do all the right things when inwardly they are full of greed
and evil. The same concept is seen in John 13:1-11 when Jesus
washes the feet of the disciples. All but Judas was considered
clean but they needed to maintain that cleanness by washing
their feet. Jesus cleanses us of all unrighteousness but we
live in the world and like it or not the world makes us dirty,
unclean. We can’t help it. Sin touches us and makes us
unclean. We cleanse ourselves by the word of God. (John 15:3)
We remain clean by remaining in the word so that we know what
God expects of us, so we are encouraged by that word, and so
that we are in communion with God. Hebrews 10:19-25 (HCSB) 19
Therefore, brothers, since we have boldness to enter the
sanctuary through the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way
He has opened for us through the curtain (that is, His flesh),
21 and since we have a great high priest over the house of God,
22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of
faith, our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and
our bodies washed in pure water. 23 Let us hold on to the
confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is
faithful. 24 And let us be concerned about one another in order
to promote love and good works, 25 not staying away from our
worship meetings, as some habitually do, but encouraging each
other, and all the more as you see the day drawing near. This
passage seems to sum it up very well. We have a boldness to
stand before God because of the shed blood of Jesus the Christ.
This makes Jesus our High Priest who goes into the Holy of
Holies or the sanctuary of God and there intercedes on our
behalf. This new boldness is due to Christ’s gift of salvation
and is ours through faith that comes from a true heart that is
confident in our trust that God is true to His promises. We are
cleansed from the evil that we once knew as we learn to walk in
the righteousness of Christ in every area of our lives. Because
of this cleansing, we need to hold fast to the confession we
made by faith, take hope in that promise of our ever faithful
Lord. We need to have concern for one another which is a living
out our faith which produces Love and good works. We fellowship
with one another so that we can encourage one another to live
out Christ. Which is ever increasing in necessity as the second
coming of Christ draws ever closer.

Perverts the Straight Paths of the Lord…
Matthew 7:13-14 (HCSB) 13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For
the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to
destruction, and there are many who go through it.14 How narrow
is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few
find it. There are two main paths that man can take. One leads
to death the other to life. Acts 13:4-12 tells the story of
Barnabas and Saul being sent out and led by the Holy Spirit to
go to Cyprus to share the gospel there. A Jewish false prophet,
sorcerer, named Bar-Jesus was there, with him was an intelligent
man named Sergius Paulus. Sergius Paulus called upon Barnabas
and Saul to come and tell him about the Christ who came to take
away the sins of the world and give him life. The problem was
that the false prophet set out to stop them encounter preventing
Barnabas and Paul from sharing Christ with Sergius Paulus. Paul
then became filled with the Holy Spirit and said these words to
the sorcerer, (HCSB) “You son of the Devil, full of all deceit
and all fraud, enemy of all righteousness! Won’t you ever stop
perverting the straight paths of the Lord?” The sorcerer was
doing the will of Satan by preventing the word of the Lord from
being preached to those that would hear. As the story continues
the sorcerer became blind by the will of God for his
determination to change the path God had ordained and the result
was that the man who wanted to hear the message believed. The
path that God wants us on is narrow and straight and leads to
life. (Psalms 17:4; Psalms 17:5; Psalms 23:3; Psalms 25:4;
Psalms 25:10;Proverbs 2:8; Proverbs 2:18-20; Proverbs 3:6;
Proverbs 3:16-17; Proverbs 4:11; Proverbs 8:20; Isaiah 2:3;
Isaiah 42:16; Matthew 3:3; Mark 1:3; Luke 3:4; Acts 2:28;
Hebrews 12:13) The path Satan wants us on is broad and leads to
death. (Job 6:18; Job 8:13; Proverbs 1:19; Proverbs 2:11-14;
Proverbs 2:15; Proverbs 7:24-27; Isaiah 3:12; Isaiah 59:7;
Jeremiah 18:15; Jeremiah 23:12; Lamentations 3:9; Hosea 2:6;
Romans 3:16)
Daniel also tells of a time in which the answer to prayer was
delayed because of a battle between the Prince of Persia (a
demon) and the angel sent to deliver the message. (Daniel 10:13)
Another case of a demon trying to pervert the path of God. In
this case, the archangel Michael intervened. The ways of the
Lord is the right path that we should be on if we desire life.
(Hosea 14:9) It is when we leave this straight path that we have
trouble. (II Peter 2:15) Trusting God, listening to His voice
and following Him is the evidence of the path that we are on.
(Psalms 16:11) It is a path marked by righteousness and upright
living. (Isaiah 35:8; Proverbs 16:17)

only three more so I will post them all today...
Uses Our Pride…
Man has been plagued with pride for all of his history. A
pride that Satan likes to use against us to draw us away from
God. Even our elders and overseers are subject to Satan using
our pride against us. I Timothy 3:1-13 gives us the
qualifications for the overseer. He is to be must be above
reproach, the husband of one wife, self-controlled, sensible,
respectable, hospitable, an able teacher, 3 not addicted to
wine, not a bully but gentle, not quarrelsome, not greedy— 4 one
who manages his own household competently, having his children
under control with all dignity. But he must also not be new to
the faith. Why? Because the one that is new to the faith has
not yet learned how to be humble likewise he is to have a good
reputation in the community so that the community sees
righteousness and not sin. Otherwise he will he will become
conceited and fall into disgrace as Satan continues to
manipulate man and tries to turn man from the straight and
narrow path that leads to life.
Being conceited results in provoking one another and envying
one another. (Galatians 5:26) We should not be conceited about
Jesus coming to save us because it is necessary before Israel
can be redeemed. (Romans 11:25) I Corinthians 13:4 tells us that
being prideful and conceited is not Love. A Love in which we
are commanded to live in. False teachers are conceited
according to I Timothy 3:2b-10. It is a sign of the end times,
an end times that began when Christ walked on the earth. (II
Timothy 3:1-9)
Being conceited isn’t the entire picture we get from I Timothy
3 we are also told that these young converts that are placed in
the position of overseer will bring disgrace. This disgrace is
not just a disgrace of the man who is a new believer but a
disgrace to and in the sight of God. (Psalms 22:5; Psalms
25:2-3; Psalms 31:1; Psalms 31:17; Proverbs 11:2; Proverbs 13:5;
Proverbs 13:18; Proverbs 14:34; Proverbs 18:3; Proverbs 18:13;
Proverbs 19:26; Proverbs 29:15) It is tempting to make men and
women we like, men and women who seem to have had a genuine
experience with God, men and women who have a wonderful
testimony in positions of authority in the church but we
contribute to their fall, we do the will of Satan, we encourage
their sinful pride when we allow Satan to draw us from what the
word tells us and into a worldly mindset that allows Satan to
use the man or woman’s pride against them.

Words…
One of the tools Satan likes to use to compel us to sin thus be
out of fellowship with God is through our language, our
discussions, our idle words. The context of II Timothy 2:26 is
that of our use of words. We are instructed to not fight about
words that lead to the ruin of the hearer. We are to be
diligent in presenting ourselves approved by God both through
righteous living and well as teaching the truth. (II Timothy
2:14-15) We are to avoid irreverent and empty words that
increase godlessness. (II Timothy 2:16; I Timothy 6:20) The old
saying, “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will
never hurt me” is simply wrong. Words can and often do hurt.
In fact, verse 17 of II Timothy 2 tells us that words can spread
like gangrene. Gangrene is a very dangerous infection that has
been known to take both limbs and life. If words can spread
like gangrene it is little wonder we are told to guard our
words.
Christ enriches our speech and our knowledge so that we can
both endure and share Christ with others. (I Corinthians 1:4-9)
Our sharing Christ should not be with brilliant speech or great
wisdom but rather from weakness, fear, and trembling so that the
power of the indwelling Holy Spirit and our faith in Him and not
man’s wisdom are demonstrated for the world to see. (I
Corinthians 2:1) In fact, we are to excel in faith, speech,
knowledge, diligence, Love, and grace. (II Corinthians 8:7) Our
speech should be like a seasoning, like salt, always gracious
and adding to life and encouraging to others. (Colossians 4:6)
Our speech should not be flattering to others without cause for
flattery is used to compel people through lies. (I Thessalonians
2:5) Our speech should be lived out making our lives an example
of the words we say. (I Timothy 4:12) Love isn’t found in words
or speech but in truth and action. (I John 3:18)
II Timothy 2:19-20 talks about God knowing us and our need to
purify ourselves from all unrighteousness and youthful desires
so that we can be an instrument used by God for His purpose
rather than doing the will of Satan. We become purified for
God’s purpose by purifying ourselves, fleeing from our youthful
passions, pursue righteousness, pursue faith, Love, and peace
with a pure heart. We are to reject foolish and ignorant
disputes which breed arguments. In fact we are to avoid
arguments and exchange them for gentleness, teaching, patience
instruction If we do these things God might grant repentance
that leads to truth and knowledge. (II Timothy 2:20-24) In
this way we avoid and may lead others away from the trap of
Satan. (II Timothy 2:26; Ezekiel 33:31)
The mouth is important as is our speech because it reveals what
is in the heart. (James 3:1-12; James 1:26; Matthew 15:11-18)
We will one day be asked to give an account for every word we
have spoken. (Matthew 12:34-36) But we can’t control our
tongues alone we need help and since God has equipped us it is
God who can help us to control our tongues and language so that
our speech is edifying rather than destructive. (Psalms 141:3;
Psalms 34:13; Psalms 39:1; Proverbs 13:3; Proverbs 21:23; Psalms
120:2)
