A friend once said: "That is not in the bible!" often means,
"I've never heard of or thought about that interpretation
before..."
Is not all exegesis interpretation? IF not, then must I call all
exegesis that does not agree with me eisegesis? Can I not
decide if I am getting an interpretation of a verse from the
Spirit through the verse? Or must I always decide that if I am
not agreeing with someone I am putting my interpretation onto
the verse, not getting it out of the verse?
Which demands the question:whose interpretation must I 'get out'
of a verse?? Catholic, Calvin or Arminius ? (just to stay
mainstream and not go into the cults). Every one of them claim
to be using the technique of exegesis, not eisegesis, though
they all differ in interpretation and scold me for eisegesis
whenever I differ from them, sigh.
It seems like the tough stance on exegesis is to control all
thought into the parameters of only one theology...if someone is
off a bit - the war cry of eisegesis must go up! What is the
proof that my different opinion on the meaning of a verse is
from myself, man made, and not from the Spirit? Only that it
disagrees with the expert who is reading it, sigh.[/quote] we
talked about this the other day...there is a difference between
comprehension which purposes to know what the author intended
and interpretation which is what I as the reader wants it to
say. Exegesis if used correctly is about comprehension whereas
eisegesis is about interpretation. You are right that way too
many people use the terms wrong.

If you weren't thinking of a bit of a side trip I guess this
could be split if I knew how...
We have no problem identifying a human as part of humanity
because we all share the same human attributes. What is so
strange about identifying the Divine Persons from their Divine
attributes?
God the Father is an intelligent, self aware Person capable of
pure love and true free will and who is omniscient, omnipresent
and omnipotent.
God the Son is an intelligent, self aware Person capable of pure
love and true free will and who is omniscient, omnipresent and
omnipotent.
God the Holy Spirit is an intelligent, self aware Person capable
of pure love and true free will and who is omniscient,
omnipresent and omnipotent.
These Divine attributes do not make three divine beings but by
their nature form a oneness, a complete unity called The ONE
TRUE LIVING GOD. This God is our Creator and the sum goodness of
all life. God the Son is also the one we know as God incarnate,
the man Jesus.
