       The Knights Templar was a religious military order of knighthood
       established at the time of the Crusades that took vows of
       poverty and chastity, but also set up a prosperous network of
       banks and gained enormous financial influence.
       Accused of blasphemy, the Templars became associated with the
       Holy Grail, secret societies and the occult. While the priceless
       treasure that they allegedly accumulated is considered by some
       mainstream historians to be comprised of gold and artifacts,
       esoteric organizations argue that their true guarded wealth came
       in the form of ancient secrets of internal alchemy.
