When I think of the really early Christian churches I think of
Paul and his disciples starting churches all over Macedonia,
Greece an Asia Minor and beyond. I do not think of Peter or Rome
       or the Catholic church.

I might add that the early Roman Church for the most part,
shared all the problems of the other churches in the areas you
spoke of. Of course the Catholic church we know of did not come
       about until around 375 AD.
       Thanks for listening

Other than in Roman Catholic tradition, I don't know of Peter
founding or leading any church in Rome. He was in leadership at
the "church" (group of believers) in Jerusalem, and later seen
among the church of believers in Antioch. When Paul wrote to
the church in Rome (the book of Romans) there was nothing
       addressed to Peter whatsoever.

I agree and will further submit that Peter never did make it to
ROME. He is not the first Bishop (pope) as their claim.

Not sure.... but I do know that there is no record in scripture
of Peter in Rome, or the head of the group of believers gathered
       there that Paul addressed.
"Tradition" says that Peter was crucified by Rome, in Rome-- but
none of that is mentioned in scripture and "the story" doesn't
emerge until many years later. (like 250 years later).
Peter, James and John, the same three who were with Jesus in
the garden and on the mountain were the leaders of the early
church, and some time after that Paul too joined the early
Christians in establishing a ministry primarily aimed at Gentile
       believers near and far.

According to all historical facts I could find, Peter never went
       to Rome.
By the way, If one looks closely, Peter, James (John's brother)
and John were the three inside people closest to Jesus Christ.
Most all important dates, these three were with Him.
