I've been sitting here trying to figure out how I wanted to
introduce myself. Since I came from another forum some of you
already know what I have said about myself there.
When I first get to know someone I like to ask them questions,
one of my favorite questions is what is one thing about you that
is the most interesting or unique?
So I guess that is where I will start here....the one thing that
is probably most unique about me is that I was hit by a train
and survived.
I look forward to asking some tough questions and discussing the
tough answers with you all
Wow Lori, you were hit by a train? Were you in a car?
Something unique about me is that I survived serious drug
addiction and alcoholism only with God's help. There was no
other way out besides prison, death or the word of God. Thank
you so much for joining and helping me to feel useful and
accepted. I know that God has touched lives and done great works
through my thousands of posts over the years. Sometimes I have a
feeling that nobody cares or notices but if only a few or even
one person seeks Christ through a post I share then it's all
worthwhile.

First let me say this...the very fact that you survived,
overcame, and thrive despite your addictions is not only a
testimony to Gods Love and power but also a testimony to the
world that God is using you to advance His Kingdom, never loss
sight of that.
Yep, a train...the whole story goes like this.I was going to an
appointment but didn't know where the Dr. had moved to, so since
I am bad a directions, I got lost. I came to a railroad
crossing and stopped, looked, listened. Not seeing or hearing
any sign of a train I proceeded on my journey, praying that God
would show me the way back to something I knew...(btw, this
might be a good place to say that we should be careful what we
pray for because the ER was not what I had in mind when I prayed
for something I was familiar with ;) ) Okay so anyway, just as
I got on the tracks, I glanced to my left and I am here to tell
you that you have no idea how large a train really is until you
are watching one barreling down on you.....
The train hit my car where the front door and the front fender
meet. The car was thrown off the tracks. There was no room in
the drivers compartment for my legs. In fact, the only thing
that could be salvaged from the car was one tire. Nonetheless,
I climbed out of the car and walked to the road for help. I had
a gash over my eye, a small cut on my ear and some bruises.
That might be the end of the story except that we serve a
powerful God. So just one more note about the whole thing
before I finish the story. There was a fatal accident the week
before mine and the week after mine at the same crossing.
So now the rest of the story. The people from church all told
me that God wanted to draw me closer to Him through this and so
I sought God through it but didn't get any closer. This went on
for years. Then one year, God gave me this promise...Romans
8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of
those who love him, who have been called according to his
purpose.....and so I began focusing my attention on meditating
on this passage.
One day at work, a co worker came to me and told me about a
struggle she was having and how must despair she was in. I told
her that I didn't know or understand what God was doing but I
could trust Him to use it in accord with Romans 8:28 and then I
told her about being hit by a train and where the verse came
from. She asked me to work for her that night and I did. The
next morning she ran into work and said, "Lori, Lori, we have to
talk". When we had a chance to talk, she told this story.
She said, last night I borrowed a friends car and drove to a
railroad crossing and just sat there on the tracks. She said, I
saw the train coming and in that moment I thought about what you
said and I drove off the tracks.
I still don't know all the ways God wants to work in our lives
and in the most difficult circumstances, but I can rest assured
that God will work good through it all if I simply set aside
myself and in that trust Him even if I never know how He uses
it.
May you know the joy of knowing that God is using everything in
your life for good and in that take comfort and rest.
That sounds like a miracle and it helped to save someone's life.
Someone brought that scripture to my attention a few years ago
and it gave me hope and determination and courage and helped to
strengthen my trust and faith in God.
There are some things that are beyond our control and if we can
put those things in God's hands then it can give us peace and
hope. I have asked God why so many times about something. There
were many times I felt forsaken by God. But when I really think
about it, I wouldn't be here alive if God hadn't protected me
and given me the strength and courage to endure this something.
I still don't understand why but if all things work for the good
of those who love him then there is a reason and some good will
come from this something. And here again, this scripture is
being brought to my attention again along with an amazing story.
:)

Amazing testimony Lori, great post. I am going to pray about

I must confess that there are days I wish I had gone "home" to
my Lord and King that day, but I also know that what He has done
in my life and through me since then has been an amazing journey
into the depths of His Love.
May we recognize His hand of mercy, grace, and Love even in our
darkest hours.

That's a hard question to answer because so many things have
happened to me during my life. I'll just mention one thing. I
was struck by lightning once. It wasn't a direct hit but it sort
of ricocheted off something and hit me. I wasn't injured but I
felt it. It felt like a very strong vibration going across my
midsection. It was sort of scary.

I can relate to that. Some years ago I was having chest pains.
And of all days that could have happened it was Thanksgiving
Day. Two of my kids had come to visit that day and my daughter
and I had planned to cook a big Thanksgiving dinner.
I had gotten up that morning and the chest pains started and
intensified. It was annoying and I was thinking, no, not today.
So I tried to ignore it and started getting dressed when I
started feeling dizzy so I sat down on the bed and told myself
that I just needed to sit down for a few minutes. But the chest
pains and dizziness continued and I started feeling weaker. So I
laid back on the bed hoping that would help but it didn't.
My daughter came into the room asking what was wrong because she
was expecting me to be up and dressed by then. I told her that I
just needed to lay down a few minutes and not to worry. Then my
heart started fluttering and racing and I felt weaker and
weaker. I didn't want to go to the hospital on Thanksgiving Day.
So I just kept telling my daughter that I would be okay.
But time passed, minutes into hours. So she called 911 even
though I told her not to.
The paramedics arrived and by that time I could barely feel my
body and the room seemed to disappear and looked foggy or
something. I felt like I could almost see something as I looked
straight ahead. I could barely hear what the paramedics were
saying. Their voices seemed so far away. But I felt this total
peace and felt like I was wrapped in pure love. I didn't want
that feeling to stop.
Then the paramedics were yelling at me trying to get a reaction.
I was thinking, I wish they would just go away and leave me
alone. I was so annoyed with them. Then they put me on a
stretcher and I felt so let down and disappointed to leave that
wondrous feeling I had. They gave me a nitro glycerin pill and
my head was hurting so bad from that and I was nauseas in the
ambulance.
Long story short, that was a close call. The doctor asked me why
I waited so long to call 911. I said, it's Thanksgiving Day. My
kids and I were going to have Thanksgiving together. The doctor
said well you're lucky not to be in ICU or worse.
I was in the hospital almost five days and it was a total blur.
I was told that my blood pressure had plummeted dangerously low.
They gave me so many IVs and made me drink salt water.
But yeah, I was ready to go "home" that day too and I was
disappointed that I didn't.

wow what an interesting story...apparently God isn't finished
with you yet either.
Nitro is the worst when it comes to headaches. They gave me
nitro when I was in afib which is really what started all this
current medical condition which is a whole nother story and it
kind of started before that but anyway, long way to say that I
had nitro and that stuff is soooooooo nasty...yuck
Glad your here and glad you shared your story
