What fruit should the true believer be producing?
By: guest24 Date: May 11, 2021, 8:40 am
---------------------------------------------------------
If the HS indwells the true believer, then the true believer who
is yielding to the HS should exhibit the fruit of the HS...I
found this helpful...
The Fruit of the Spirit
Love~putting another before self in an act of humility, creating
a covenant, whose intent/purpose is reconciliation/restoration.
(Leviticus 19:34; Deuteronomy 6:5; Proverbs 17:17; Matthew
5:43-46; Matthew 19:19; John 13:34)
Joy~Websters Modified~the emotion evoked by well-being, success,
or good fortune or by the expectation/hope of possessing what
one desires. (John 3:29; John 15:10-11; John 16:24; John 17:13;
I John 1:4)
Peace~Baker's Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology~In
English, the word "peace" conjures up a passive picture, one
showing an absence of civil disturbance or hostilities, or a
personality-free from internal and external strife. The biblical
concept of peace is larger than that and rests heavily on the
Hebrew root slm, which means "to be complete" or "to be sound."
The verb conveys both a dynamic and a static meaning" to be
complete or whole" or "to live well." (John 14:27; John 16:33;
Philippians 4:7; Colossians 3:15)
Long-suffering, endurance, perseverance~Websters~patiently
enduring lasting offense or hardship~Forerunner
Commentary~Similar to patience and forbearance, longsuffering is
the quality of self-restraint in the face of provocation. A
person who is longsuffering is not quick to retaliate or
promptly punish someone who has insulted, offended, or harmed
him. The opposite of anger, it is intimately associated with
mercy. Longsuffering is an attribute of God and thus a fruit of
His Holy Spirit. (I Corinthians 13:7; I Timothy 4:16; Hebrews
10:36; James 1:12)
Gentleness~Baker's Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical
Theology~The Old Testament. Gentleness is suggested by the
waters of a stream (Isaiah 8:6) or by wine flowing over lips and
teeth ( S of S 7:9 ). It stands in contrast to baseness (Deut.
28:54; Deut. 28:56), harshness (II Sam. 18:5), and wildness (Job
41:3). Gentle words wield great power (Prov. 15:1;25:15). Job's
counsels were well received because he spoke them gently (Job
19:22). Gentleness evidences itself in a willingness to yield,
reminiscent of a lamb being led to slaughter (Jer. 11:19;cf Isa.
53:7). The supreme exemplar of gentleness is Israel's God. He
cares tenderly for the flock under his care, and "gently leads
those that have young" (Isa. 40:11). He discloses himself not
just in wind and earthquake and fire, but in "a gentle whisper"
(I Kings 19:11-13). His consolations are spoken gently (Job
15:11). As Yahweh's representative, the messianic king comes in
humility and gentleness (Zec. 9:9). (Colossians 3:12; I Timothy
6:11; I Peter 3:15)
Goodness~Websters~the nutritious, flavorful, or beneficial part
of something~I like this definition in that it sums up the value
of all the truths of scripture as well as God Himself~(Ephesians
5:9; II Thessalonians 1:11; Hebrews 6:4-5; II Peter 1:3-11)
Faith~Blue Letter Bible~conviction of the truth of anything,
belief; in the NT of a conviction or belief respecting man's
relationship to God and divine things, generally with the
included idea of trust and holy fervor born of faith and joined
with it~(Mark 11:22; Acts 15:9; Acts 20:21; 26:18; Romans 1:5;
Romans 1:17; Hebrews 11)
Meekness~Thayer's Lexicon~Meekness toward God is that
disposition of spirit in which we accept His dealings with us as
good, and therefore without disputing or resisting. In the Old
Testament, the meek are those wholly relying on God rather than
their own strength to defend against injustice. Thus, meekness
toward evil people means knowing God is permitting the injuries
they inflict, that He is using them to purify His elect, and
that He will deliver His elect in His time (Is. 4:17; Luke
18:1-8) Gentleness or meekness is the opposite of
self-assertiveness and self-interest. It stems from trust in
God's goodness and control over the situation. The gentle
person is not occupied with self at all. This is a work of the
Holy Spirit, not of the human will. (Gal. 5:23)~(Matthew 5:5;
Psalms 37:11)
Temperance, self control~Websters~restraint exercised over one's
own impulses, emotions, or desires~Blue Letter
Bible~self-control (the virtue of one who masters his desires
and passions, esp. his sensual appetites)~(Titus 2:11-12; II
Timothy 1:7; II Peter 1:5-6)

I think you covered it pretty well. Good study. I can't think of
anything else right now.
