What I and some others (though they seem few and far between) is
that Genesis is a polemic, not a scientific treatise. As such
it is incredibly rich in biblical truths that deserve to be
explored in more depth but instead, too many people get hung up
on trying to draw out of it a contradiction for the world view
of how life began.
The Bible is literal unless we can see clearly that it
is not. Always literal unless it's not.
that was kind of my point, it is written like a polemic,
not a scientific treatise...to read it literally means we take
that into account.
It seems the literal reading of the Bible is being assaulted
from every side. One's worldview controls as with most
everything how one interprets the Bible.
Do you really--really believe in GOD/Jesus///If you truly
believe in His Gospel, then He can do anything including the
authorship of everyword in the Bible.
If you truly believe, then those words of Jesus cannot be
removed, changed, added, etc. Yet, the world specifically
America will declare war in the coming days/weeks against the
Christian.
Polemic Theology is s small relative ineffective theology.
Reading the Bible Literally, Historically and Grammatically
bring the words of the Bible together without controversy and/
or contradictions.
Blade
So...that would mean that you read parables as real life
situations rather than analogies that express a point...and what
about poems, those are factual, literal explanations of things
as well...how sad that you don't even take Jesus at his word
when He says something is a parable that it is a parable...I'm
praying for you
one minute you chatise me for reading parables as real life
situations and the next that I don't take Jesus at His word when
He says a parable is a parable.
As far as analogies go, there are some 200 different
grammatically structures in the Bible which is why I have always
said that to read the Bible Literally, Historically and
grammatically is the only way to go.
Thank you for your thoughts.
Blade
which is exactly why I said that Gen. reads/is
structured as a polemic and you challenged that to say we have
to read it literally...what would reading a polemic literally
mean?
Polemic:;;;;a strong verbal or written attack on someone or
something. Is this how you see GOD. He is attacking someone or
something?
Believe you have the wrong word.
Blessing, my friend
Blade
So you do not believe that God is attacking the notion
that many have that it is okay to worship the creation rather
than the creator? Remember, your own definition says someone or
SOMETHING...
Hi Lori....Got sa little extra time before another round of ice.
First let me nail it down to at least what chapter you are
talking about and verses if necessary/.
Over all, I do not believe God is attacking the worship of His
creation for by seeing , admiring His creation(s) one cannot
deny there is a GOD, thereby worshiping HIM.

should read Genesis as we would any work, as per the nature of
the work, iow's poems have clues that they are poems and should
be read that way...you disagreed, so I asked you why you think a
parable should be read as literal and you accused me of being
wrong yet again...so I have no idea what you believe and when I
ask you to explain you run off and hide. A literal
understanding of scripture would mean that we read it for what
it says, as in if it is a polemic, we read it as a polemic if it
is a parable we read it as a parable, etc. you claim to read it
literally but then deny we should read it for what it says it
is...how can anyone follow what you believe given this double
talk of yours?

Maybe, I am not really sure Blade, since you refuse to show me
where you think I am wrong, just proclaim me wrong and move on.

Lori...I believe I just got through saying we see things
differently.

Wow. Your good at misdirecting what I actually said but the
words I spoke are still here for anyone to read them.
To read something "Polemic" is an aggressive attack on or
refutation of the opinions or principles of another.
Therefore, You read Genesis/Bible to attack or refute what GOD
has authored.
I read it to understand what He actually said without any though
of refuting it..
Another Nice try, Lori
notice the cut and pasted definition...a strong verbal
or written attack on someone or something....notice how it
disagrees with you version..where did your definition come from?
Here is the definition from Websters...: an aggressive attack
on or refutation of the opinions or principles of another
b: the art or practice of disputation or controversy —usually
used in plural but singular or plural in construction
2: an aggressive controversialist : DISPUTANT ...and if you
remember, I pointed out that the "attack" was NOT against God or
any other such accusation of yours but aginst the Idea that it
is OKAY to worship creation rather than the creator...something
you did not refute at all...so why do you think it is okay to
worship the creation rather than the creator since you want to
continue with your assertions without rebuttal of the point I
made? You see, the refute is NOT what scripture says, but
rather that it is NOT okay to worship creation...which I said
and you launched into this attack, so I can only assume you
think it is okay to worship creation rather than the creator,
either that or you have not heard a word I said, most likely
because you are afraid a woman might teach you something.
