Should There Be a Penalty For Infidelity?

The question above pretty much covers the topic of this thread.
By punishment, I am not speaking of the death penalty but rather
financial penalty/obligations and child custody.
I, for one, believe that such an incident(s) should weigh
heavily on any decision made in custody issues as well as
divorce settlements.
What do you think and why? Also, feel free to expand on this
topic.

I have never really thought about because society so readily
accepts cheating and promiscuity, they seem to promote it
actually in film and media. I agree with you no matter which
spouse it is. The cheater should not get custody or money. The
assets should be split and the existing money perhaps but no
receiving alimony if you are the cheater.

I agree totally! No rewards for slimeball cheaters! None. Not
one. Nada. Pitchfork time. ;D

I've never been married but I know it can get complicated
legally. You have the proof factor and evidence of cheating etc.
You have financial and property issues and complicated details
etc. I imagine it can be terrible if two people are determined
to make the other pay. But children should definitely not go
with the cheater. Yet what if the wife is a slut or an addict
but the husband cheated?

As Lora said, I suppose everything depends on the individual
state the couple is in. There could be laws or statutes created
specifically for infidelity. Many women have no trouble at all
following their spouse and taking pictures of dates and meeting
or secret rendezvous events. This problem goes back to the urges
for sex. In this world sex has control of so many people. Look
what folks do to get it, keep it or find it.

It seems that some men in America have found a way to be
unfaithful legally as with the Mormons allowing multiple wives.
Make your own religion and your own rules and say it's from God.
