Gathering info on Solomon and his control over demons to put
together for a post.
1 Kings 4 LEB
(29) God gave wisdom to Solomon and very great discernment, as
well as breadth of understanding, as the sand which is on the
edge of the seashore.
(30) The wisdom of Solomon was greater than the wisdom of all
the people of the east and more than all the wisdom of
Egypt.
(31) He was wiser than all the men: Ethan the Ezrahite; Heman,
Calcol, and Darda the children of Mahol; and he was very well
known.
(32) He spoke three thousand proverbs, and his songs were one
thousand and five.
(33) He spoke concerning the trees, from the cedar which is in
Lebanon up to the hyssop which grows on the wall; he also spoke
concerning the animals, concerning the birds, concerning the
creeping things, and concerning the fish.
(34) They came from all the nations to hear the wisdom of
Solomon; from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his
wisdom.
Well, that's a lot more than what we have in our modern bibles.
(The LXX, Septuagint, says there were 5000 which is even more.)
Of course our modern bibles were put together long before we had
access to a lot of manuscripts that we now have access to.
The Dead Sea Scrolls gave us a lot of writings we did not have
before, and they (the Dead Sea Scrolls) have extra Psalms of
Solomon four of which specifically tell of exorcising demons
found in 11Q (cave 11 of Qumran) more specifically known as
11Q:5: column 7.
Solomon, a son of David, as Jesus would be; a king of Israel
with divine knowledge, as Jesus would be.
So the Messiah, son of King David, would be expected to follow
the typology of Solomon ..... full of divine wisdom and power
over demons.
And notice the kings that come to Solomon because of his wisdom
...... all the kings of the earth (verse 34).
Those would be kings of the Gentile pagan world who were
entrenched in learning and practicing divine knowledge of the
gods.
And notice that two areas of kings are specifically mentioned in
verse 30 (from the east and from Egypt).
Two areas that were world famous for seeking and practicing
divine knowledge of the gods.
Here is one of the Psalms in the Dead Sea Scrolls about songs
(psalms or utterances) that David wrote (which is not in our
modern bible):
Now David son of Jesse was wise, and a light like the light of
the sun, a scribe, and understanding and perfect in all his ways
before God and men. And Yahweh gave to him a spirit of
understanding and light. And he wrote three thousand six hundred
psalms, including songs to sing before the altar over the whole
burnt offering for every day, for all the days of the year,
three hundred and sixty-four, and for Sabbath offerings,
fifty-two songs, and for the first day of the month and for all
the holidays, and for the day of atonement, thirty songs. So all
the songs which he spoke were four hundred and forty-six, and
four songs for making music over those who are possessed. So
there were four thousand and fifty. All these he spoke in
prophecy which had been given to him before the Most
High.
Interesting to note that four extra psalms of Solomon found in
Dead Sea Scrolls specifically talk about exorcising demons, and
that is the same amount mentioned here in this psalm of David.
Another psalm in the Dead Sea Scrolls not in our modern bible:
1 For a maggot cannot praise you nor a worm tell your
loving-kindness.
2 The living, the living can praise you, even those whose foot
stumbles can praise you.
3 When you reveal your loving kindness to them and you teach
righteousness to them.
4 For in your hand is the soul of every living thing; the breath
of all flesh you have given.
5 Deal with us, Yahweh, according to your goodness, according to
your great compassion, and according to your many righteous
deeds.
6 Yahweh hears the voice of those who love his name and does not
abandon his loving kindness to them.
7 Blessed be Yahweh, who does righteous deeds, crowning his
saints with loving kindness and compassion.
8 My soul cries out to praise your name, to praise in song for
your loving kindness
9 to proclaim your faithfulness, of your praise there is no
end!
10 I was near death for my sins, and my iniquities have sold me
to Sheol;
11 but you delivered me, Yahweh, according to your great
compassion, and according to your many righteous deeds.
12 Indeed I love your name, and in your shadow I find
refuge.
13 When I remember your strength my heart is brave, and I lean
on your mercies.
14 Forgive my sin, Yahweh, and purify me from my
iniquity.
15 Give me a spirit of faith and knowledge; don’t let me be
dishonored in iniquity.
16 Don’t let Satan rule over me, nor an unclean spirit;
17 neither let pain nor the evil purpose take possession of my
bones.
18 For you, Yahweh, are my praise, and in you I hope all the
day.
19 My brothers rejoice with me and the house of my father, who
are astonished by the graciousness...
20…forever I will rejoice in you.
Even the LXX (Septuagint) has an extra psalm (151) in it that
our modern bible does not have.
It's not a Psalm split into two, but is a completely separate
Psalm.
Psalms 91 (that is in our modern bible)
Psalms 91 LEB
(1) One who lives in the secret place of the Most High will
lodge in the shadow of Shaddai.
(2) I will say to Yahweh, "You are my refuge and my fortress, my
God in whom I trust."
(3) For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, from
the plague of destruction.
(4) With his feathers he will cover you, and under his wings you
can take refuge. His faithfulness will be a shield and a
buckler.
(5) You need not fear the terror of the night, or the arrow that
flies by day,
(6) or the plague that spreads in the darkness, or the
destruction that devastates at noon.
(7) A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your
right hand, but it will not come near you.
(8) You will only look with your eyes, and see the punishment of
the wicked.
(9) For you, O Yahweh, are my refuge. You have made the Most
High your dwelling place.
(10) No harm will befall you, and no plague will come near your
tent.
(11) For he will command his angels concerning you, to watch
over you in all your ways.
(12) In their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your
foot against a stone.
(13) You will tread on lion and viper; you will trample young
lion and serpent.
(14) Because he loves me, therefore I will deliver him; I will
protect him because he knows my name.
(15) He will call upon me and I will answer him; I will be with
him in trouble; I will rescue and honor him.
(16) With long life I will satisfy him, and show him my
salvation.
In the Dictionary of Deities and Demons in the Bible we have
these terminologies as specific demons.
Dictionary of Deities and Demons in the Bible Online — Brill
referenceworks.brillonline.com referenceworks.brillonline.com
(unfortunately this link does not give the full description but
only the first paragraph or two of the description.)
Terror of the Night פחד
לילה
Paḥad laylâ is hap.leg. in the OT, in Ps. 91.5,
where it appears in close conjunction with several terms
referring to various demons (see below). Another combination of
the word paḥad, lit. ‘terror, dread’, and laylâ,
lit. ‘night’, occurs in Cant. 3.8 where it also refers to a
certain type of demon (see already the Targumîm and Krauss
[1936] for references to other rabbinical sources). See also
Deut. 28.66.

We also have this referenced in our modern bibles in Song of
Solomon:
Solomon Arrives for the Wedding
Song of Solomon 3 LEB
(6) What is this coming up from the desert like a column of
smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense from all the
fragrant powders of the merchant?
(7) Look! It is Solomon's portable couch! Sixty mighty men
surround it, the mighty men of Israel.
(8) All of them wield swords; they are trained in warfare, each
with his sword at his thigh to guard against terror in the
night.
Isaiah 34 LEB
(14) And desert creatures shall meet with hyenas, and a
goat-demon shall call to his neighbor; surely there Lilith shall
repose, and she shall find a resting place for herself.
This demon entity was known for attacking brides and grooms
trying to prevent conception (which usually takes place during
the night) and also known for the death of children dying in the
night.
Fitting that Solomon shows up at this wedding prepared to
prevent this demon entity from messing with the bride and groom.
arrow that flies by day
In the LXX (Septuagint) this Greek phrase is translated as "mid
day demon".
In the Dictionary of Deities and Demons in the Bible (same link
as above).
Midday Demon
Δαιμόνιον
Μεσημβρινόν
The Midday Demon is found in the Septuagint version of Ps. 91.6
(LXX Ps. 90.6).
In Ps. 91.5–6, the Hebrew psalmist declares that the one who
takes refuge in the Almighty will not fear: “The Terror of the
night nor the Arrow that flies by day, nor the Pestilence
(Deber) that stalks in darkness nor the Destruction
(Qeṭeb) that wastes at noonday”.

plague that spreads in the darkness
Deber דבר
The accepted meaning ‘pestilence’ may be a specific Hebrew
development with scarce support from other Semitic languages
(cf. Ug. dbr ‘pestilence’ [?], Ar. dabr ‘death’, dabara
‘ulcer’); Akk. dibiru ‘misfortune, calamity’ is probably a
Sumerian word, having no connexion with Hebr deber (CAD D.
134–135). Deber is one of the three proverbial causes of death
on a wide scale. It is attested some 50 times in the Bible along
with war (sword, blood) and famine (mainly…..

the destruction that devastates at noon
Qeteb קטב
The term Qeṭeb appears four times in the OT. Its basic
significance is ‘destruction’, (perhaps etymologically ‘that
which is cut off’) though the contexts suggest that other
nuances are present. Various scholars have translated it as
‘plague’ or ‘pestilence’ in the context of its parallel use with
rešep, deber. The term has overtones of a divine
name.
II. Identity
qẓb occurs once in Ugaritic (KTU 1.5 ii:24) and may be a
kinsman of Mot (J. C. de Moor, ‘O Death, Where is Thy Sting’,
Ascribe to the L…...
Also notice that the terminology used is in the above Song of
Solomon attending the wedding is battle geared.
This could possibly be the same context Paul is referencing in
his epistle that speaks of having the full armor of GOD to
battle not against flesh and blood but against spirit entities
of wickedness.
Ephesians 6 LEB
(11) Put on the full armor of God, so that you may be able to
stand against the stratagems of the devil,
(12) because our struggle is not against blood and flesh, but
against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world
rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of
wickedness in the heavenly places.
(13) Because of this, take up the full armor of God, in order
that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done
everything, to stand.
(14) Stand therefore, girding your waist with truth, and putting
on the breastplate of righteousness,
(15) and binding shoes under your feet with the preparation of
the good news of peace,
(16) in everything taking up the shield of faith, with which you
are able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil
one,
(17) and receive the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the
Spirit, which is the word of God,
Also in
Habakkuk 3 LEB
(3) God came from Teman; the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah.
His splendor covers the heavens, and his praise fills the earth.
(4) And his brightness was like the light; flashing rays came
from his hand for him; And there is the covering of his
strength.
(5) Before him went Disease [Deber], and Pestilence went out at
his feet.
Pestilence
Strong's H7565
From H8313; a live coal; by analogy lightning; figuratively an
arrow (as flashing through the air); specifically fever: -
arrow, (burning) coal, burning heat, + spark, hot thunderbolt.
Psalms 91 is full of terminology connected to demons.
