Bolt action rifles? How about the classic, late 90's era, Savag

This might be of some significance...
Remember back in the mid-late 90's when Savage Arms faced
Chapter 11 (or whatever it was) and they had to restructure
their corporation? They took the common Savage 110 model, and
came up with an idea to use the same "long action" stock
profile. But yet they devised a way to machine both short
action and long action bolt action components to fit within the
same stock, thus, saving lots and lots of money?
Look close at my Savage 110 chambered in .308 --- it is
basically a long action .30-06 stock, internal structuring,
etc... but yet deep inside, Savage devised a way to insert a
steel "block" behind the internal magazine, thus shortening the
action and creating a short action .308 .243, etc... rifle
caliber system, using long action stocks with short action
       calibers.
Long story short, I don't care what anyone says... My Savage
.308 rifle combined with a Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40 scope is a
       freakin' tack driver! ;D

That is a beauty. Savage is a great gun maker.

Savage was a winner & the Military would have chosen some of
them, But Remington walked the walk with plenty of $$$$ ???
