Math Education: An Inconvenient Truth [1](video via Flutterby [2]) This is how kids are learning math these days? Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Granted, as a student I kept asking what, exactly, was the point of learning my multiplication tables, but I did it anyway. And I cheated all through fourth grade mathematics (which may have eventually led me to repeat pre- algebra in 8^th grade), but the techniques discussed here appear to make the traditional method of long division appear easy and straightforward. I seriously doubt that I would have “found” the way to do long division on my own. And describe two ways of solving 36 ÷ 6? Um … Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I am so glad to be out of school, these days.
