____ FRST Computer: batch 4 __________________________________________
For the Few of Us...
So... after daily-driving my batch 3 computers for the past year,
I'm ready to commit to making the next batch -- which... is likely
just to be an "open" batch. I'll make these on-demand, as orders come
in. Let's just hope the supply chain holds up. :)
batch 4 Promise:
For this "research kit" batch, I promise to deliver a personal
CyberDeck experience not too dissimilar from Plan 9. That is, much
like Plan 9 is a "research" operating system, consider the Model 3 a
"research" personal computer -- a far-out, 90s-retro, portable,
packet radio research computer, at that.
Be prepared to write some C. Be prepared for a hand-crafted,
3D-printed computer. It should feel like an advanced prototype,
printed using a new professional-grade (Bambu X1C) printer, yet
also feel familiar and accessible.
In terms of durability, my Ender-produced batch 3 builds have held
up beautifully to my dragging them across North America.
With the Bambu, I'm able to offer overall higher-quality prints
in PLA+, PETG, and PETG-CF -- each filament type with its own
quality merits.
How about this for a warranty statement? If anything comes
up, I promise to do my reasonable best to make it right --
replacement parts, etc.
And as I've mentioned elsewhere, these are also meant to hold up as
a piece of techno-art, so expect that, too -- a unique and bespoke
quality. To that end, each one will be serial-numbered.
(UPDATE: first trackpad-integrated PCBs have come in!)
They're working great and one of the surprises turned out to be the
integrated RGB LED on the Waveshare RP2040 imodule. With it, I was
able to set up the QMK firmware to light the LED according to the
active layer. This has been awesome! (especially for seeing
exactly when auto-mouse layer is active))
