I have picked out the assembler files, so that I could assemble the kernel. I will have to make some documentation to be able to figure this thing out myself and would be glad to contribute whatever I come up with to you. 03:57:38 if you have a downloadable set of nasm files I would appreciate getting them if possible, but I think I have done the editing ok. 04:03:37 perhaps to make sure I did it right I could write a C program to extract the sources. Your commenting conventions will make this fairly simple. 04:05:11 working on this now... 04:12:21 Think Mark isn't here at the moment. Look for a nick called i440r 04:14:24 ok thats fine. I would be willing to help him out. It looks like an interesting program. I once tried to write something like Forth myself on the Coco OS9, didn't get far. Separate I and D space made it slightly difficult. 04:15:15 I don't code all that much, but can do web sites. 04:15:38 but I do have a degree in C.S. (ancient though). 04:46:08 --- quit: rob_ert (Read error: 113 (No route to host)) 04:52:38 ok got my little unpack utility to work, so i have a good set of sources now. 04:53:38 I will post on my web sites download section, and look for Mark later. 04:57:35 --- quit: snowrich ("Client Exiting") 05:16:45 --- join: dsmith (firewall-u@cherry7.comerica.com) joined #forth 05:27:14 --- join: rob_ert (~robert@h137n2fls31o965.telia.com) joined #forth 05:35:46 --- join: snowrich (~snowrich@66.190.103.71) joined #forth 05:35:58 hi again. 05:37:14 successfuly assembled the isforth kernel. notes: http://snowrich.dtdns.net/linux/html/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=4 05:53:04 you may contact me on that site...getting some rest now. 05:53:21 --- quit: snowrich ("Client Exiting") 05:55:10 --- join: cleverdra (julianf@0-2pool111-22.nas2.florence1.sc.us.da.qwest.net) joined #forth 05:55:25 Hi :) 06:07:47 hello rob_ert 06:13:20 --- join: snowrich (~snowrich@66.190.103.71) joined #forth 06:19:57 anybody awake now? I hope you don't mind that URL i posted earlier. 06:20:56 * cleverdra didn't see the URL. 06:21:27 latest article on http://snowrich.dtdns.net/linux/html/index.php 06:21:38 notes about assembling isforth. 06:25:50 I haven't gotten any further than that yet :) 06:26:00 but it did run. 06:48:33 snowrich: The file is a tar file, not screens. 06:49:20 oh, well it didn't have a tar extension after the bunzip so I was guessing. 06:49:33 I'll unpack it properly now. 06:49:35 snowrich: You didn't need to do all that messing around wiht vi. 06:51:04 or I lost the extension, mozilla seems to want to add .txt after bz2 files. 06:52:18 I'll pay more attention next time :) 06:52:27 --- quit: snowrich (Remote closed the connection) 06:56:00 --- join: snowrich (~snowrich@66.190.103.71) joined #forth 06:56:09 thanks I have it done properly now. 06:57:14 --- quit: cleverdra (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer)) 06:57:15 snowrich: vi IIRC, can't handle lines longer than 1024 bytes anyway. You couldn't edit a real screens file. It would be one long line. 06:57:16 --- join: cleverdra (julianf@0-2pool111-22.nas2.florence1.sc.us.da.qwest.net) joined #forth 06:57:51 well ok, i probably knew that. just tired. 06:58:52 I don't know why the mozilla 0.9.9 insists on adding .txt after a .bz2 file download name. I guess it would be much easier to drop the .txt before saving. 07:00:50 and I messed up trying to do a mv to get rid of the .txt extension and didn't realize it was a tar. 07:03:32 snowrich: dunno. I dl'ed it with galeon. Worked fine. 07:07:18 ok I'll use galeon from now on. 07:07:33 I have it installed but hadn't tried it that much. 07:08:30 in fact I think I have 4 or 5 browsers on here. I did a redhat 7.3 install everything. 07:11:08 and I don't remember mozilla 0.9.9 doing that when I had compiled it from source on lunar linux. might be a "redhat" customization. 07:20:22 galeon is easier, but you still have to Shift-click the link instead of just clicking. 07:21:49 --- quit: snowrich ("Client Exiting") 07:22:59 --- join: snowrich (~snowrich@66.190.103.71) joined #forth 07:23:48 ok now that I have all the files it looks a little nicer. :) 07:24:55 see you guys later. 07:24:58 --- quit: snowrich (Client Quit) 07:30:07 --- join: tathi (~josh@wsip68-15-54-54.ri.ri.cox.net) joined #forth 08:12:57 --- join: Stepan (~stepan@pD9E53215.dip.t-dialin.net) joined #forth 08:13:03 hi :) 08:15:59 hi 08:17:04 gen'rly kind of quiet here around this time of day :) 08:42:35 hehe. not many forthers left in europe ;) 08:49:46 * dsmith is away: lunch 09:01:33 --- join: I440r (~mark4@1Cust114.tnt2.bloomington.in.da.uu.net) joined #forth 09:06:29 Hey. 09:06:41 I440r: Do you have a working IsForth for BSD? 09:06:47 If not, what needs to be changed? 09:16:22 no 09:16:25 well 09:16:49 the first thing you need to do is copy ALL forth sources into a fbsd version directory 09:16:59 then you need to modify freebsd.1 09:17:27 and then you need to go through every single forth source file and modify ANY references to syscall words 09:17:40 Anything else than the syscalls? 09:18:24 i do not believe so no 09:18:41 :) 09:18:48 Well, I might do that sometime. 09:18:56 Got NetBSD installed on the gateway. 09:19:10 Or I'll give an account to anyone with too much spare time ;) 09:19:15 someone* 09:20:03 netbsd is NOT the same as fbsd 09:20:30 i think netbsd is like linux - it passes the parameters to the syscall through registers not on the stack 09:20:35 i might be wrong about that though 09:20:53 I though it used the stack. 09:20:58 Ask the NetBSD people, to be sure. 09:21:00 I wasn't talking about FreeBSD btw :P 09:21:01 maybe it does 09:21:25 Well 09:21:26 Hrm. 09:21:31 It can emulate Linux. 09:21:34 How stupid I am :) 09:21:38 very few ppl are interested in syscalls 09:21:59 you cannot use linux emulation to run isforth 09:22:08 :( 09:22:09 Why? 09:22:14 what rob_ert said 09:22:19 it doesnt work 09:22:29 Why won't it? 09:22:42 it keeps giving "elf executable type 0 unknown" or something 09:23:20 Bah. 09:23:26 Bad turnkey :P 09:26:28 no 09:26:31 bug in nasm 09:26:37 you cant even run the kernel i dont think 09:27:30 Bah. 09:27:40 Bad NASM. 09:32:03 yup 09:32:19 But it's your fault, too, in some way. 09:33:07 :) 09:33:09 no 09:33:15 its yours for not helping more :P~ 09:34:28 :P 10:11:03 * dsmith is back (gone 01:21:17) 10:39:03 --- quit: dsmith (Remote closed the connection) 10:46:18 --- join: dsmith (firewall-u@cherry7.comerica.com) joined #forth 11:15:27 --- join: XeF4 (hktgbs@12-245-116-85.client.attbi.com) joined #forth 12:54:52 --- join: Herkamire (~jason@wsip68-15-54-54.ri.ri.cox.net) joined #forth 12:58:04 --- quit: cleverdra (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer)) 13:12:53 exit 13:12:59 wrong window :P 13:13:12 neway time to go code 13:13:15 bbl 13:13:19 --- quit: I440r ("Reality Strikes Again") 13:50:35 --- quit: tathi (Remote closed the connection) 13:51:05 --- quit: Herkamire (Remote closed the connection) 13:51:07 --- join: tathi (~josh@wsip68-15-54-54.ri.ri.cox.net) joined #forth 13:51:37 --- join: Herkamire (~jason@wsip68-15-54-54.ri.ri.cox.net) joined #forth 14:23:41 * dsmith is away: home 14:33:03 --- quit: dsmith (Remote closed the connection) 14:41:15 --- quit: tathi ("leaving") 14:49:39 --- quit: Herkamire ("leaving") 16:36:33 --- quit: XeF4 ("pois") 18:20:11 --- join: Herkamire (~jason@ip68-9-58-81.ri.ri.cox.net) joined #forth 19:35:05 --- quit: Soap` (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer)) 20:05:11 --- join: Soap` (~flop@202-0-42-22.cable.paradise.net.nz) joined #forth 20:21:39 --- join: Aurinto (TheBlueWiz@ip-216-25-202-110.vienna.va.fcc.net) joined #forth 20:21:47 --- part: Aurinto left #forth 20:37:21 --- quit: Herkamire ("leaving") 22:03:58 --- join: St3pan (~stepan@p50847DD8.dip.t-dialin.net) joined #forth 22:21:37 --- quit: Stepan (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)) 22:24:34 --- quit: n_ (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer)) 23:59:59 --- log: ended forth/02.07.02
