Nintendo teases they'd 'like to adhere' to the Super Mario Galaxy Movie's

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie could
have a big influence on upcoming games, according to Nintendo's game director 
Shigeru Miyamoto. 

In a recent interview with Nintendo Dream Web , Miyamoto told fans that 
Princess Peach's backstory may be expanded upon in future games, using The 
Super Mario Galaxy Movie as a reference point. Miyamoto said, "Because we 
dont know what kind of game well make next with our characters, having too 
many character settings would become a constraint. Im fine with being bound 
by the gameplay, but I dont want to be bound by having created a story, which 
has been the reason for not making movies for many years.

"So, before making this movie, I hadnt decided on the characters backstory, 
but now that Im making the movie, its become fun to expand on the character 
in various ways. Therefore, I would like to adhere as much as possible to the 
settings created in the movie in future games.

In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie , we learn that Princess Peach is the sister 
of galactic traveller Rosalina, and that both of them were born from 
stardust. At a young age, the two sisters were separated when Peach was sent 
to live in the Mushroom Kingdom for her own safety.

This was a huge reveal for fans of the game, and it does seem like this will 
be firmly rooted in the character's canon going forward.

This is good news for those who enjoyed The Super Mario 
Galaxy Movie , but there's a chance not everyone will be pleased, as reviews 
of the movie were quite poor , averaging 43% on Rotten Tomatoes .

The audience score is much different, though, as the movie has 89% on the 
Popcornmeter. So it has proven to be a very divisive take on the much-loved 
video game characters. 

Miyamoto has also responded to bad Super Mario Galaxy Movie reviews

In the same interview with Nintendo Dream Web , Miyamoto addressed some of 
the bad reviews for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which has a lower approval 
rating than its predecessor. 

He said: The situations are similar, arent they? Actually, I thought the 
critics reviews of the first film were understandable. But I thought this 
time it would be different and it was even harsher than last time, which I 
found strange. 

"People from other mediums are coming in and working hard to liven up the 
film industry, so its really strange that the people who are trying to liven 
up the film industry are so passive. 

Despite the mixed response, it does seem the movies and games will become 
closely linked, so what we saw in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie could 
definitely influence future Nintendo games. We'll just have to wait and see 
what that looks like.
