A friend of mine watched it and told me that many of the people in the theater
he talked to afterwards (he reviews movies/TV) told him felt the movie was
more interested in promoting an agenda than anything else.

I've not seen it nor do I plan to as all of the movies I've seen of this genre
in the past 25 years are crap IMNSHO.
