Subj : This Saturday (7/11) on Svengoolie To : All From : Dumas Walker Date : Fri Jul 10 2026 18:23:54 Another "loosely based" on H G Wells movie, 1965s "Village of the Giants," will be featured. The Wells story it is based on is "The Food of the Gods and How it Came to Earth." That is one that I have not read. I started to read it but, unlike most of his other stories I own, it really seemed to have "a message" that he was trying to get across -- and took too long to get to any "science fiction" plot -- that I really didn't enjoy it and gave up. At any rate, this movie adaptation sounds like it might be one of those "campy" 1960s sci-fi/beach party films. Not to spoil too much but, in this version, the "food of the gods" apparently comes from a chemistry experiment created by a kid called "The Genius," who is played by none other than a young Ron "Opie" Howard. Other child and young actors who appear in the film include Tommy Kirk, Beau Bridges, Joy Harmon, Johnny Crawford (the son on "The Rifleman"), and Toni Basil... yes, that Toni Basil. ;) As it is based loosely on a Wells novel, it is interesting but, as it is a novel I have not read I may skip it. Svengoolie's show is on at 8pm EDT on Me-TV. Mike --- ScorpioWeb v0.36a (Linux/x86_64) * Origin: Capitol City Online (42:17/7) .
