EXPLODING COMET MCNAUGHT: Do you remember exploding Comet Holmes in 2007? Something similar is happening in the morning sky right now as Comet 220P/McNaught surges toward naked-eye visibility. 

The comet is in the constellation Cetus near the star Mu Ceti, best seen around 4 AM local time. Its expanding atmosphere is already wider than 7 arcminutes--a quarter the size of a full Moon--with a short tail pointing away from the sun. With a current magnitude of +7, it is an easy target for binoculars and backyard telescopes.
