The number of options can be intimidating, but I'd still rather have the
options than not have them.  The more I do software development over time, the
more I learn about various build options, and the more I appreciate being able
to change certain build options if I need to.  The opposite approach is the
approach Apple seems to take, which is less-is-more: They often provide fewer
options, with the idea that there is less to go wrong.  Recently I started
working on some Apple development projects at work, and I found that although
Apple's XCode can show line numbers, it doesn't show the column number of the
cursor, and there seems to be no option to turn that on.
