+++ Tuesday 15 July 2025 +++ OCC25 Working TLS with Links package ==================================== Links is an open source graphics and text mode web browser. See: http://links.twibright.com/ Links2 does not support javascript. After installing, it turned out that it comes with its own cyphers and it can open "modern" web pages over https. Download and Installing ----------------------- The package for OS X 10.3.9 can be downloaded from: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/links2-text-mode-graphics-mode-web-browser Grab the application and drag it to the Applications folder. Starting the application with the mouse --------------------------------------- Clicking on the icon in the Applications folder is The normal way to start the application. A dialog window pops up, with the option to start links in TUI mode or in graphics mode, click your preferred choice to start it. When the TUI mode is requested, Links2 opens in a terminal. When the graphics mode is requested, it starts X11 if needed and opens in a X11 window. Right clicking the Links2-icon opens a small menu, and "Keep in Dock" is not an option. I guess this is because it is an X11 application. Starting the application from the command line ---------------------------------------------- To open an URL from the command line: /Applications/Links2.app/bin/linksx -g \ -ssl.certificates 1 -ssl.builtin-certificates 1 \ -ssl.client-cert-crt \ /Applications/Links2.app/cacert.pem \ The `-g' flag here indicates that the graphics mode is seleced. Omit the flag for TUI-mode. Closing words ------------- It is good to have Links2 as an alternative browser, and great that it supports modern cyphers. And it can be used to post on Snac!
