Subj : Message title search (> and <) can jump to an unrelated message: 16-bi To : GitLab note in main/sbbs From : Rob Swindell Date : Wed Sep 30 2026 16:23:01 https://gitlab.synchro.net/main/sbbs/-/work_items/1208#note_10557 Fixed in 3a602f2c3d (item-11-thoughts, 2026-09-30). The index CRC is now the candidate filter it should be: on a CRC match, the header is read and the actual subject (or, for the deleted-post visibility check, the author name) is compared. - New `smb_subject_match()` in smblib compares two subjects with the same normalization `smb_subject_crc()` applies (leading `RE:` prefixes, letter case and trailing white-space ignored) - New `sbbs_t::msg_subject_matches()` does the CRC pre-check, then loads the candidate header and compares; all four title-search loops (`>` and `<`, sub-board and mail readers) use it - The non-sub-op deleted-post check confirms the author by name after the CRC match, mirroring the private-post check Reproduced first on a scratch terminal server with three posts whose first and second titles share a CRC-16: `>` from message 1 landed on message 2. After the fix it lands on message 3 and `<` returns to message 1, in both readers. The longer-term index widening is tracked separately in #1274. -- *Authored by Claude (Claude Code), on behalf of @rswindell* --- SBBSecho 3.38-Linux * Origin: Vertrauen - [vert/cvs/bbs].synchro.net (1:103/705) .
