I finally figured this one out. It seems that since I was copying and pasting from a web page, then obviously this page was formatted for publication on the web in HTML. However, when I pasted an ascii-art picture into an email, it was not aligned because I had to format the email to HTML. In the "New Message" window of Outlook Express 5.0, under FORMAT you have the option of choosing either Rich Text (HTML) or Plain Text. Once I switched from Plain Text to Rich Text, that took care of the problem. All the art lined up perfectly. I had of course done all the other things that everyone told me to do. But then this final step solved my problem. It feels good to conquer yet another computer puzzler. Thanks again to all, have a safe and Happy Halloween and I am looking forward to delving more deeply into the world of ascii-art! DAN
