I agree-- with the very small pics... the angel I have in
the below sig have popped up all over...  I made it over
a year ago and I'm sure others have made it on their own
since (and possibly before)...  I will agree to your point--
and I will not create a ruckus when I see such a picture
accredited to others... BUT when you get to the larger
pictures-- and I'm only talking 6-8 lines high or more,
the chances that it has been created exactly by someone
before is much less.

ASCII art is not words.. I don't think that it would follow
the jounalists take on 'fair  use'...   many people recognize
ASCII art as ART!

To be honest, I have created ASCII pictures for $ -- 
I've been paid $250 for a picture--  so I can tell you that there
is a little money in ASCII art-- not enough to quit your real
jobs-- but enough so that artists ought to object to others selling
their work.  There are people who will buy it.

And finally, I think what Kangaroo has suggested about having
his program as shareware and the ASCII art as freeware (with
info about signatures/copyright) is ideal.  Noone seems to mind
peole  using the ASCII art created-- the objection arises when
it is used for commercial purposes and financial gain to others.
