Can |anyone e-mail you? No. Even if they're really clever? No. | |> Normally I don't want to email anyone...I say what I have to say in |> public in the newsgroups and I have no particular wish for people to |> email me about what I have written publicly. For example, Joris e-mailed me the other day to ask my |permission for him to include some of the a.a-a FAQ on his Web site. |Would that have been appropriate to post to a.a-a? No, because it was a |private matter between the two of us, and it would have been quite |boring to everyone else. So he unmunged my address, and e-mailed me. |Simple. People who want to communicate with you privately have no such |option. | '------------------------- I agree fully with you Matthew. Unmunging of addresses is an easy task and mungung is an effective way of stopping spamming (unless you have used the raw, unmunged addy in the past). It is very useful sometimes to be able to contact an ascii artist privatly, for congrats, permissions or even to say 'hi, how are you!' and other general messages just not appropriate to the entirety of the group. Although it`s not in my sig any more that my reply addy it ROT13`d, it`s fairly obvious that it`s not a valid address. It takes someone with a slightly better IQ to figure that one, but once you read my sig it`s pretty obvious what my address is, unless you try to email mart.atkins------@bigfoot.com ... that of course is silly! :o) ______ .
