I could understand if >they made major changes... but a few characters out of one this size?? sheesh. It seems to be purely a matter of personal judgement and every individual will have a different yardstick. Personally I always feel a little dubious about making any change however small, and leaving the original artist's name attached, because I cannot know how each author will feel about any sort of diddle and whether they would want to be named on the diddle. Perhaps you remember last year when Al Tinsley objected to my flying his Welsh Flag at halfmast in a tribute to the death of Princess Diana. Al did not want to be associated with the Diana event and felt that my halfmast version carrying his name implied that he was a sympathiser. Many people in this medium can very touchy and sensitive depending on how they interpret what is posted. The Net is really only for people with rhinoceros hides. *8-) In cases like the above example I would probably use "after/gpyy" just to be on the safe side. Anything much more extensively diddled I would append my name eg "gpyy/cfbd". And for a complete redo, where I took a picture and completely changed it so that the original would be almost, or totally, unrecognisable, I would use only my own name. However, I do not expect anyone else to use my criteria and feel relaxed about anything people personally choose to do. If I get any strong criticism I just scrap that picture and will never post the author's original again either. There is no way I am going to start emailing Ascii Artists every time I want to post their pictures...they can lock them all up on their own websites... alt.ascii-art is a "public channel" (Deja vu, HeHeHe). In all my time on the Net I have only had two very serious objections to my use or reposting of other people's pictures. Both were people who had put the mark (c) for copyright on their work and they objected to me even reposting thier pictures intact...so beware...our Very Own Pete Casso is now copyrighting his cartoons, and possibly his actual Stein characters themselves, although I'm not too sure about the latter...some of his little characters are a bit like the "My Very Own Cat" series, Owls etc, which are regarded as public domain material. Bye,
