Try this (I think it can go anywhere in the page, but in the  would be

That should show any text in PRE tags in Fixedsys (and, should the machine
not have fixedsys, in a browser-appointed 'monospaced' font).  The
'type="text/css"' is so that it will be HTML4.0 allowed (at least, when
checking my pages, W3 validator yelled at me without it )

Note this is a cascading style sheet code so browsers that don't support it
or have them disabled will still see them in Courier (or whatever their
default is).
